SubscribeElgin, Illinois – On May 19th – 21st, programs across the country faced off at The Centre of Elgin, and competed at an extremely level!
The event was loaded with talent and players who were ready to impress. Each game had highlight worthy plays, and players looking to prove their team was worthy of a Championship Title. Although there can only be one champion there was no shortage of intensity throughout the weekend. The Midwest Melee had one of if not the best talents thus far on the circuit. Below, I highlighted “Day 2 Guard Standouts” that I was impressed by at the Centre of Elgin.
Kain Strong |G| WI Blizzard
Strong was an all around leader for Wisconsin Blizzard who had a strong showing on day 2. He brought an energy and grit that was contagious to his team. His strong drives and willingness to sacrifice his body on defense all were examples of his impact. Strong competed at a high level and in turn played a major role in their early success in pool play.
Griffin Carroll |G| Team Tyus
Carroll starred in his role as a spot up shooter for a very competitive Team Tyus. The sniper from range was able to heat up quickly and needed to be accounted for once he stepped past half court. His movement off the ball was a catalyst for his team and he was a reliable target in transition and on flares in the half court.
Cayden Vosters |G| WI Blizzard
Vosters carried with him an energy and toughness to him that led the way for Wisconsin Blizzard. The feisty guard had his hands on many hustle and effort plays that shifted momentum for his team. He was a viable table setter and reacted well under pressure when at the helm. Most impressive was his clutch shooting, he hit many timely threes when his team needed it the most.
Brennan Bonds |G| Sky Force Elite
Bonds is an offensive threat who scored in an array of ways on day 2 of the Midwest melee. On top of handling the table setting for Sky Force Elite, his movement off of the ball led to a decent amount of shots in range. When he wasn’t spreading the floor, Bonds proved to be a reliable slasher taking his man off the dribble when ran off the line. Most impressive was his willingness to control the tempo of the game.
Trey Resch |G| CBA Gold Elite
Resch is a combo guard who makes it a habit to make the best play each time down the floor. His decision making is next-level ready as well as his toughness. He’s a reliable playmaker as well as spot-up shooter when working in space. He was the demonstrative leader for a very deep Chapman Basketball Academy.
