Labor Day, Christmas/Holiday tournament season. However you look at it, that list is short, as this weekend is a scouts dream, with plenty of opportunities to see numerous players all under one roof. I will be out on the hunt looking for new prospects as well as trying to evaluate players for the upcoming rankings. Here’s a look at some local prospects I’m hoping to see.
Engfer usually runs with the Henderson Basketball Academy, so there’s a good chance I could see him this weekend. I’ve marveled at his physical tools, and am impressed with his ability to shoot the ball from mid range. Looking to see what other tools he’s added to his arsenal.
Love the fact that the Wolverines travel down to Vegas every summer to compete. Going to make sure I lay eyes on Casey this week. Want to evaluate his shooting, and identify his signature skill as he will be taking on some tough competition in the Memorial Day Classic.
Stockrising opportunity for Gaeta this weekend. I saw him back in the Spring and he impressed. In basketball you are what you repeatedly do. Another impressive repeat performance will give him a great opportunity to move up the rankings ladder.
Williams is on the list of PG’s I’m looking to evaluate this weekend. He usually runs with PFB so I should get an opportunity to lay eys on him. Shot selection, and on ball defense are two skills that I’ll be evaluating this weekend, as those skills keep growing in value with college coaches.
Probably as excited to see Bass as any player at the event. The 6’8 forward is a grinder, that has worked his way into a high value recruit. He recently picked up an offer from St John’s and is putting togetther a monster Summer. Dominance is what I’m looking for from Bass, he’s one of the best rebounders in the state and I fully expect him to be at least that during the Westcoast Smoke event this weekend.
Highlights
Andersen is coming off a high school season helping Silverado to the State Championship game. Quiet as kept, he’s been real productive this Spring, getting buckets during fall league and tournament action. Time for a hardcore eval of him as he could be a potential stockriser. During the season, he has to do a lot of the dirty work for the Skyhawks, looking to see how much he’s stretched out his game.
