Today, I will be continuing my “Bluegrass State Standouts” series to highlight some of the most impressive basketball talent, starting off with a breakdown of the top point guards from the class of 2024. Without any further ado, here’s my list of the top 2024 point guards in Kentucky to watch more closely on the court this upcoming season.
Highlights
In the top spot on the list is Travis Perry Travis Perry 6'2" | PG Lyon County | 2024 State #115 Nation KY , a 6-foot-2 point guard at Lyon County High School that has established himself as one of the top players in the country. Perry, who also contributes on the court for Indiana Elite 3SSB, is currently ranked 79th nationally. As a junior this past year, Perry led his team on the boards with 1,170 total points, averaging 31.6 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. Perry additionally shot 52.3% (418-799) from the field, 44.9% (175-390) from beyond the arc and sank 87.4% (159-182) of his free throws. The rising senior out of Eddyville, KY. helped lead Lyon County to a 31-6 overall record. With impressive size, speed and explosiveness, Perry is nearly impossible to contain as he can sink baskets both down low and on the perimeter, and is one of the more consistent rebounders on the roster.

Claiming the number two spot on the list is Brett Decker Brett Decker 6'2" | PG Central Hardin | 2024 State #211 Nation KY , a 6-foot-2 point guard at Central Hardin High School that has continued to explode on the court during his junior season with the Bruins. Decker, who also contributes to Phenom United 3SSB (OH), was the top scoring weapon on Central Hardin’s roster last year. Decker averaged 23.0 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. Decker additionally shot 54.0% (245-454) from the field, 49.1% (112-228) from three-point range and 83.6% (133-159) from the free throw line. The rising senior out of Cecilia, KY. also helped lead the Bruins to a 19-14 overall record last year. The Liberty commit makes a difference on both sides of the floor due to his size, speed and athleticism. He is also a consistent scorer with no shortage of ways to be disruptive on both sides.
Coming in at number three on my list is Max Green Max Green 6'6" | CG Oldham County | 2024 State KY , a 6-foot-5 point guard at Oldham County High School that had a commanding presence on the court during his junior season with the Colonels last season. Green, who also plays for Grand Park Premier UAA (IN), led Oldham County on the boards with 763 total points, averaging 23.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Green additionally shot 48.0% (273-569) from field goal range, 39.4% (100-254) from beyond the arc and 90.7% (117-129) from the free throw line. The rising senior out of Buckner, KY. helped lead the Colonels to a 16-16 overall record last year. In addition to impressive size and speed, Green contributes solid toughness and composure with the ball in his hands, showcasing his ability to drive to the rim and sink shots on the perimeter.
In the number four spot on my list of notable performers is Julian Bunton, a 6-foot-3 point guard out of DeSales High School that was highly explosive on the court during his junior season with the Colts last year. Bunton, who also competes for Louisville Legends on the court, was one of the most efficient weapons on DeSales’ roster, averaging 9.1 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. Bunton additionally shot 48.8% (83-170) from field goal range, 35.6% (21-59) from beyond the arc and 65.3% (49-75) from the free throw line. The rising senior out of Louisville, KY. additionally helped lead DeSales to a 21-12 overall record last year. In addition to impressive size, speed and a strong passing game, Bunton holds a huge offensive advantage at many areas of the court as he can drive to the lane, make layups, pull up for jumpers and sink it from deep.
Finishing at number five on my list is Tyler Doyle Tyler Doyle 6'4" | CG Lexington Catholic | 2024 State KY , a 6-foot-4 point guard out of Lexington Catholic High School that made a huge impact on the court for the Knights during his junior season, finishing as the third best scorer on the roster. Doyle, who is committed to Bellarmine, averaged 10.3 points and 2.9 rebounds per game last year. Doyle also shot 53.0% (123-232) from the field, 36.8% (25-68) from beyond the arc and 75.0% (48-64) from the free throw line. The rising senior out of Lexington, KY. helped lead Lexington Catholic to a 32-3 overall record last season. With impressive size and speed, Doyle made an impact on both sides of the court last year, showcasing his ability to make smart passes and shots while controlling the game at the top of the key.
