I watched as many as the 31 17U teams as I could and ended up seeing 26 of them.
These teams are a combination of teams performance and players performance.
17U 2nd Team
Gavin Dabney Gavin Dabney 6'5" | SG Higley | 2025 State AZ Higley (Swish365)
A bigger combo guard with an all-around game. He handles it well and is a 3-level scorer. He gives ball fakes, makes threes, rebounds well in and out of his area with his size and strength, hits step backs from mid-range and even has a jump hook shot. He changes speeds well and his passing game was on point this weekend.
Dayton Foster Dayton Foster 5'7" | PG ALA West Foothills | 2024 State AZ ALA West Foothills (Steven Hunter Elite)
An undersized point guard has real speed. He plays with a huge motor to compete. He will chase down loose balls and will facilitate. He will burst by and then throw the dime. His runner game is hard to handle and can shoot it from the perimeter from mid to the three. He changes speeds to get the defense off balanced. He threaded the needle on one pass that may of been the pass of the tournament.
Robert Heflin V Robert Heflin V 6'1" | SG Eaglecrest | 2023 State CO Eaglecrest (Morgan Dawgs)
A tough downhill guard is a three level scorer. He scores thru contact easily and can score with jump hook shots in heavy traffic. He can stop on a dime and pull-up from mid to the three and is has a tough attitude to compete.
Adam Hubbard Adam Hubbard 6'4" | CG Canyon View | 2025 State AZ Canyon View (Team Rise N Grind) (Pictured)
A long combo guard had a good weekend. He lets it fly from anywhere on the court. He is best off the catch but can step back off the dribble. He can collect steals and dunk it on the break. He has range near the volleyball line and can ball fake and go to the basket. He rebounds well in his area is long and projects out as a 3 and D.
Shamar Johnson 2024 SF 6’4 Northeast (Team MD Stars)
An active wing forward is an upper tier rebounder with two hands. He can shoot it from the elbow and in and uses his unusually long arms to rebound, collects steals and try to dunk the ball with his reach. He has a nice touch on his free throw shots, runs fluidly and he can flush it down in transition. He is good at the pick and roll game and plays with immense energy.
Cian Phipps SG 6’2 2024 Riverside Poly (Gamepoint IE 2024)
A deep shooter from beyond the three point line. He rebounds well in his area, moves without the ball and has a fast shooting release. He will play the passing lanes and make the extra pass and runs the floor in transition. Once he is rolling, he is hard to stop. His skill and motor were on display all weekend long.
Josh Ray Josh Ray 6'5" | PF Eaglecrest | 2023 State CO Eaglecrest (Morgan Dawgs 2024)
A super athletic power forward who dunks everything. He blocks every shot near him and springs up quickly to tap in offensive boards with a good motor. He has some counter moves in the post to utilize and will back his man down to score. He runs like a guard and is a fun watch.
Zach Strauss Zach Strauss 5'9" | PG Basha | 2023 State AZ Seton Catholic Prep (AZ Gremlins 2024)
The Coe College commit played well. He is a true deep shooter with a strap. His range separates him but his IQ is off the charts. He will throw up the court passes on the norm and make his teammates better. He is quicker then you realize and can burst by or create separation to get his shot off.
