One of the most dynamic and potent scorers in the state was Caleb. He is a physical guard that has been known for his scoring abilities, but this year his basketball IQ took a drastic turn upward. On a loaded team, he understood he could get his whenever he wanted, so he often worked to get his teammates involved early. He showed his ability to facilitate and distribute the rock with precision. Now don’t get me wrong, the strength of his game is definitely scoring the rock, but his all-around game has matured so much, and he has emerged into a complete all-around player who is on a mission next year to win state, as his Indians squad was upset by eventual state champions Buckhorn.

One of the most prolific scorers in the state is Ja’Micah. When thinking about his projection to the next level, some question his size, but when you examine his game, he has so many qualities that will make room for him at the next level. He has a brilliant floor game, and I was absolutely sold on this talented combo guard when I saw him compete against Pinson Valley. He flourishes in the open court when he has the rock and the freedom to do what he does. He is a walking bucket, as he can go for huge numbers at any moment, which he did just about every night this past season. Alabama is lucky to be able to witness this talent one more year as he competes during his senior campaign.

Perhaps one of if not the best shooters from a distance is Ty. This year he was asked to do a lot with backcourt teammate Kyle Layton Kyle Layton 6'0" | PG Mountain Brook | 2023 State AL missing a good bit of the season to an injury. He took on more responsibilities when it came to facilitating, and he improved drastically in that area while maintaining being a threat from behind the arc. He showed progression in his game when it came to attacking off the bounce. In a year where many watered down their expectations for the Spartans, Ty led them back to the championship game, where they eventually lost to Buckhorn. The amazing thing about Ty is that the state has one more year to see this amazing talent on display.

I have put so much ink on Salim, and it is amazing that he is still developing his game and giving me so much to write about. He led his team to the 7A State Championship crown and did it emphatically by putting up huge numbers in the championship game. He is getting stronger, which is allowing him to carve out more space on his drives as well as giving him the advantage when finishing thru contact. Some have said that he leads a team that could three-peat, and many are putting their bet on Salim to be the guy to lead his squad to that feat. He is garnering so much attention from programs at the next level, and the fact that he is only a sophomore that has done nothing but continue to improve every time I see him says a lot about what we can expect in his final two years of his high school career.

Alex really had people looking to Piedmont to see just what he was going to do night in and night out. Not many had them making a deep run in the playoffs, but they were intrigued to see how dominant he could be. He showed his ability to put up huge numbers and was very efficient while doing it at times. He was a legitimate problem for defenses throughout the year and had a stellar high school career. As he sets his sights on the next level, look for him to carry his abilities to be a player that can play on and off the ball and defend where he plays to the next level.
