SubscribeThe Grassroots Season is in full swing as the first week of May is almost over. The 2024 class has the potential to make noise this spring and summer. With teams gearing up to play in big time platform events off of the live Period and other players just playing at a different level in their respective Spring Fling Leagues we take a look at players who could blow up.
Dutch has come in as one of the more efficient shooters in the entire UAA Circuit. That is saying alot because the rangy SG is not just killing it in the post or near the rim. He is taking some big time shots out in the perimeter and most f them are beyond the high school arc. At 6’6 that positional size has been a big time component to how he can get his shot off against a tough defender. He is a must guard player and that catch and shot ability with a high release and quick trigger has many coaches really taking a deeper look at his game. D1 kid with a lot of upside.
There is so much to really like about this kid. He is a willing passer down on the blocks. He usually finds open cutters and his footwork is nice. He does provide some rim protecting but the best part of his game is that long reach that allows him to haul in rebounds. He also has a really great fundamental as he does not always try and out jump players, he will get down in position and box out and at times that allows his teammates to get that rebound and get the break going. When he does get rebounds he has a great instinct to pass that ball up the floor and get the break going. Was recently offered by Cal which will likely spark more programs to take a look at the big fella.
What is not to like about a kid that runs the floor like a small guard. A player that dives on the floor exhibiting maximum effort at 6’9 on every play. Derelle has really made a lot of programs consider him as a true next level difference maker. He is finishing above the rim on drop steps and running the floor. but it is the other things he is doing that can allow him to blow up. Thse things include his perimeter game as he can stretch the floor with that outside shot. He can also attack a bad closeout on a catch and rip and he can find open players when the defense recovers. On defense the kid moves well laterally which allows him to keep smaller shiftier player in front. That defensive rotation is turning into instinct as well.
When we say this kid is just getting started we really mean he is just scratching the surface of what he can do at the next level. Playing the three is a really comfortable position for him. He can attack the rim and shoot. He seems to be more confident out there than he was at the high school level. He has really benefited from playing his true next level position on the AAU Circuit. With his shot continuing to get better and attack moves, this kid could really blow up.
