The Roster
A big, athletic guard with length, Higgins will be this group’s go-to player on most nights. He averaged 8.6 points a game as a sophomore for CBAL, one of the best teams in western Iowa, and his ability to create shots for himself and others, coupled with his size and shooting, make him a difficult player to defend.
Hoyt was a solid role player for Creston as a sophomore, averaging 8.0 points and 3.9 rebounds a game off the bench. A 6-3 combo forward, he does a majority of his scoring inside the arc, but his greatest attribute at this point in time is probably his ability to defend multiple positions at a high level. He can protect the painted area as a shot blocker as well as move his feet on the perimeter.
Aidan Sandbothe
Aidan Sandbothe
A 6-4 forward who can hold his own on the glass and score around the bucket, Sandbothe is a lanky, athletic big who runs the floor and is starting to put everything together. This could be a big summer for him in terms of skill development, which will make him an impact player as a junior next season for the Lynx.
Joe Hughes
Joe Hughes
Hughes is a gunner with a quick release off the catch who uses good off-ball movement to find spaces in the defense to get his shot off. He has shown flashes as a secondary ball-handler and playmaker as well.
Parker Stessman
Parker Stessman
Stessman didn’t see much playing time on the varsity roster as a sophomore for the Titans, but he’s a quick guard who does a good job getting others involved. He’s a pass-first point guard who uses his quickness to get by defenders and put pressure on opposing teams on both ends of the floor.
Carter Gruver
Carter Gruver
Gruver is coming off a huge scoring season for Woodbine, averaging 18.8 points and 4.6 assists a game. A quick guard who can break down the defense and get to the rim for finishes, this summer will be about improving his perimeter stroke, which will make him an even more dangerous all-around offensive weapon. He’s a good ball handler who sees the floor well.
Carson Kelley
Carson Kelley
A majority of Kelley’s offensive damage comes from behind the arc, with nearly 82% of his field goal attempts coming from 3-point range as a sophomore. But he’s not just a gunner – he also led the team in rebounding and can provide some versatility as a defender.
Gio Vazquez
Gio Vazquez
Vazquez started a handful of games at West last season and was a solid contributor as a three-level scorer and playmaker. He sees the floor well, knocks down open looks, and provides some quickness on the perimeter.
Out-of-state players on the roster: Zach Biegert (Elkhorn North, NE) and Jackson Crawford (Northwest, NE).
