There were some very impressive long distance marksmen in KC this weekend. Here are eight that caught our eye.
Ryder Williams Ryder Williams 6'3" | SG Versailles | 2024 State MO (Mid-Mo Elite): The 6’0 2024 lefty from Versailles displayed perhaps the longest range of the long range shooters that I watched during the weekend. When he had things rolling, he was launching them from close to 30 feet and they were touching nothing but the bottom of the net. In the Friday evening game that I saw him, he knocked down three consecutive triples to start the second half with an average distance of about 27 feet.

Logan Bishop Logan Bishop 6'2" | SG Lee's Summit West | 2024 State MO (KC Spurs-Weston): The 6’2″ 2024 guard from Lee’s Summit West played a big role in his team’s perfect 4-0 record with his terrific perimeter shooting. He is a high-energy player who was always moving in addition to his ability to know down 3-pointers. He shoots it well off the catch and in the transition game.

Randy McClendon (Minnesota Falcons): The 6’2″ 2024 guard from Minnesota was not only an excellent 3-point shooter, but a very impressive bucket-getter in the process. He was most difficult to guard because he was hitting 3-pointers off the catch also creating shots from long distance with his slick handles. He set up his defenders well with a nice escape move before draining a 25-footer. He could score from all three levels with relative ease.

Tyler Jones (LTD Select): The unsigned 5’9″ 2023 guard from Olathe West (KS) was a big problem with quickness and shooting ability. He made five 3-pointers in a game that I watched against the Minnesota Falcons on Saturday. He could play off the ball and move well to the open spots for his shots or he could come off the high ball screen ready to shoot it. He was very good off the dribble without a lot of wasted motion.
******
Jimmy Townsend (Columbia Supreme): A 6’1″ 2024 guard from Columbia Hickman who is one of the top shooting threats in the Mid Mo area. What’s impressive about his shooting is that he is good at knocking down a couple of tone-setting 3-pointers early in the game, which really seems to get his team’s juices flowing.
******
Greg Ballard (810 Varsity Elite- Crimson): A 6’4” 2024 guard from Blue Valley North (KS) showcased a very smooth shooting stroke throughout the weekend, including Saturday’s win over the Minnesota Falcons where he hit a bundle of 3-pointers to spark the victory. His game is very smooth with how he moves to get open off screens. He was shot ready when he caught the ball and he had a quick release that was tough to cover.
******
Cole Smidt (Taylor Made): The 6’5″ 2024 forward from Lee’s Summit played the Stretch 4 role very well in helping his team achieve success. He opened up the floor very well with his ability to shoot the 3-pointer off the catch or in the pick and pop. He could also hit the trail 3-pointer in the transition game.
******
Carter Carbonell (IAM3 Prospects): A 6’0″ point guard from Norman (OK) who made four 3-pointers in the game that I watched on Friday night against the KC Spurs. He managed to knock down 3-pointers while doing the bulk of his team’s ball handling. He can create space off the dribble and he had a nice step back from long distance.
