We dive into the positional rankings. We now look at the combo guards for the freshman class.
Here are the top-9 CG’s in the 2026 class:
Kaden House Kaden House 6'3" | CG Desert Mountain | 2026 State AZ Desert Mountain
One of the top players in the class had a phenomenal season. He was one of the top performers in any class. He went through games where not many can get even close to guard but he also defends at a very high level. What is unusual, besides his easy three level scoring and defense for his class, is his will to want to rebound the ball. His motor is off the charts.
Daylen Sharper Daylen Sharper 6'4" | CG Brophy Prep | 2026 State AZ Brophy Prep
A tall and long guard who plays many positions for the Broncos. He is comfortable with the ball in his hands but also plays off of it. He will defend nearly every position and he takes long strides with his size and length. He can shoot it from the perimeter and get to the rim.
Jayden Hughes Jayden Hughes 6'5" | CG Brophy Prep | 2026 State AZ Brophy Prep
A long guard has improved since the beginning of the year when I saw him. He has grown about an inch or two and is very good on the break. He also plays with a motor to defend and rebound. He will drive and kick it with an unselfish nature and score downhill, shoot perimeter jumpers and score on put backs.
Grady Crandall Grady Crandall 6'2" | CG Highland | 2026 State AZ Highland (Pictured)
A strong all-around combo guard who does a little bit of everything. He can hit the three, he loves getting to the rim with a tighter handle and uses his football like build and burst to score in traffic and he is a good passer. He will drive and kick it to a teammate but is also a big competitor. I may go on a limb here, but look for Grady to become that Noah P role next year or the year after.
Melvin Stubbs Melvin Stubbs 6'3" | SG Catalina Foothills | 2026 State AZ Catalina Foothills
A high wire act on the break is a long athletic guard. He is very fast in the open court and he takes very few strides to get to the basket. He sees the court well and can defend multiple positions. He passes it well with either hand and gets on the glass to board.
Mikah Alfonso Mikah Alfonso 5'10" | CG West Point | 2026 State AZ Ironwood
A quick combo guard plays with a lot of energy. He will shoot perimeter jumpers, make plays for his teammates and score inside the paint. His first instinct is to attack off the bounce and uses his speed in the open court for transition points. He will defend the 1-3 and can be that versatile two-way player.
George Mihilli George Mihilli 6'1" | CG ALA-Queen Creek | 2026 State AZ ALA-Queen Creek
An attacking left-handed guard has that Ginoboli-like game. He is very cerebral and often changes speeds to get to the basket. He will find teammates for assists and he uses his upper body strength to absorb the paint contact. He will also hit the three and from mid.
Koreon Head Koreon Head 6'3" | CG Ironwood | 2026 State AZ Ironwood
A long athlete transferred in from Sunnyslope and never even played so he will be able to play ASAP. He is another who is very long and athletic to get to the basket and is a stud on the break with good body control in traffic. He can make the three and pull-up from mid. He will defend with his size and length.
Brayden Newton Brayden Newton 5'11" | CG Boulder Creek | 2026 State AZ Boulder Creek
A fast combo guard is very hard to catch on the break. He seems to love touching the paint and scoring in the lane thru contact. He can shoot the three and he is a tough on-ball defender. He competes with every possession and plays and thinks fast.
