Q&A with coach Majkrzak
PHD: What are your thoughts on the weekend in St. Cloud?
Coach Majkrzak: “We were very pleased with how well our group shared the ball and played for each other in St. Cloud. That translated into winning our first three games and making it to the semis. It was a great start to the season!“
PHD: Who scored well at the Shootout?
Coach Majkrzak: “We had games scoring 88, 81, and 93 points so we scored a lot of points over the weekend. Our scoring distribution was extremely balanced. We had 4 different leading scorers in 4 games which makes us very difficult to guard. Although we don’t want to solely rely on the 3, it will be a strength of this group as all 8 kids can legitimately shoot it.“
PHD: Did any of your guys surprise you this past weekend?
Coach Majkrzak: “I was most surprised with how well they played as a team for their first tournament together. To get all 8 kids to buy into what we are trying to do right from the start is just fantastic.“
PHD: Who played well on the defensive side of the ball?
Coach Majkrzak: “Aidan Sanchez and Ace Sheeley Ace Sheeley 5'9" | SG West Fargo | 2027 State ND were both extremely active and generated multiple turnovers that fueled our transition. Both showed the ability to guard multiple positions.”
PHD: What do you hope to improve on going forward?
Coach Majkrzak: “Our transition defense needs to get better and we need to do a better job of stopping dribble penetration.“
PHD: Why are you excited about this team/roster?
Coach Majkrzak: “This team consists of great kids that are unselfish and willing to work and play for each other. Although we want to play fast, we’ve got a great mix of talented players that will allow us to be competitive in both half and full-court games. Our combination of length, athleticism, and shooting should make this group really fun to watch!”
PHD: ow often will your team practice/work out?
Coach Majkrzak: “We hope to practice 1 time/week during the season along with getting in 1-2 ECI ‘ last=”] workouts each week.”
PHD: What will a couple of your strengths be as a team?
Coach Majkrzak: “With our shooting, versatility, and willingness to share the ball, we should be able to score at a high level. I also believe we have the athletes and length to generate turnovers on defense.”
PHD: What style of basketball will you play on the offensive end?
Coach Majkrzak: “We want to get out in transition and run as much as possible. Once in the half-court, we want to spread the floor and run a motion offense where we have constant ball movement that generates assisted baskets.”
PHD: What brand of defense do you foresee your team playing?
Coach Majkrzak: “We’ll run a mix of full-court pressure but primarily we’ll be an aggressive man-to-man defense focused on generating turnovers and quick shots to fuel our transition game.”
PHD: Is there an event/tournament you are most looking forward to?
Coach Majkrzak: “We are so excited to be part of this program and to be able to coach these kids that we look forward to all of them. Our goal is to get better every tournament and be peaking by the end of the year.”
