Continue ReadingWith the high school season wrapped up there are only a few teams left playing as a high school team and our local Corner Canyon Chargers are representing the state well. Last night on the National stage CCHS was able to show what we have seen all year from them and that is excellent play from everyone on the floor and ball movement. CCHS was able to get out in transition and finish and they also created offense with good defensive principles and play that also led to scoring opportunities. The scoring load was very well spread across the players that got significant minutes.
Standout Players
Brody looked different playing on the platform. People might think that he has it easy shooting and doing what he wants against Utah competition, but Utah Hoops is better than people might think. Brody was a bully on the boards and he was shooting from all sorts of spots making buckets. Really liked that edge Brody played with making his presence felt on both sides of the court. When he caught the lob on a fast break and stared at the defender and plowed his way through the recovering players making it back solidified that he does not care because he is a dude.
Size and shooting ability was on full display. This kid has been putting in work and the he has the tools to rise in the rankings the way he played. Pick and pop threat for sure. He exploded early and CCHS never looked back. He will need to be huge in their next game today.
Jaxson was doing his thing. He was getting out on the break and he was active on defense jumping lanes. He was really good at getting in the lanes and creating. He has been one of the better stock risers out West. He had a high percentage night last night.
Overview
Corner Canyon went 5-8 in the 1st half from deep and was 8-11 from the free-throw-line and little things like that can keep them alive moving forward. Very balanced attack but they might need a few players to take it to another level in their next game.
Taking out the State Champion from Mississippi was impressive. They had an i30-5 record heading into their matchup last night.
Corner Canyon faces another challenge in Sidwell Friends, D.C this afternoon. They are currently ranked #25 in the ESPN Top 25.
