Q&A with coach Jerome Nesheim
PHD: How would you sum up the season for your squad?
Coach Nesheim: “I thought we played really well at times, we had 5 regular season losses all coming from rated teams that all qualified for the State Tournament. Dakota Valley-State A Champions, DeSmet State-B Champions, Hamlin-3rd Place, Sioux Valley-5th Place, Castlewood-5th Place. We competed every game.“
PHD: What were some of the highlights that stick out?
Coach Nesheim: “How well we competed against everyone on our schedule, we just did not have enough to finish out big games.”
PHD: How did your team overcome adversity?
Coach Nesheim: “We really lacked size but played hard enough to overcome our lack of a post player.“
Who were some of your hardest workers?
Coach Nesheim: “ Kaplan Felberg Kaplan Felberg 6'1" | CG Clark/Willow Lake | 2023 State SD really stepped up his game averaging 17.9 ppg and was MVP of the Northeast Conference. Who are a couple of role players that stood out to you?
Coach Nesheim: “ Tyson Huber Tyson Huber 6'0" | CG Clark-Willow Lake | 2024 SD had a great year for us off the bench. He is just a great athlete and we were able to use him in a wide variety of ways. The last 3 games he averaged 14 ppg. We are looking for him to lead this team next season.“
PHD: Can you talk about your seniors and what will be missed?
Coach Nesheim: “We lose 7 players with 6 of them getting quality minutes. Trey Huber Trey Huber 5'11" | CG Clark/Willow Lake | 2023 State SD and Brady Jordan Brady Jordan 6'1" | PG Clark/Willow Lake | 2023 State SD were 4-year starters. Trey Huber Trey Huber 5'11" | CG Clark/Willow Lake | 2023 State SD ‘s leadership will be greatly missed. He made sure everyone was on the same page and working extremely hard. Coach Nesheim: “We have a very bright future, juniors, Tyson Huber Tyson Huber 6'0" | CG Clark-Willow Lake | 2024 SD and Jack Helkenn played quality varsity minutes for us, along with freshman Trevor Nielson Trevor Nielson 6'2" | SF Sioux Falls Jefferson | 2026 State SD . You will see in the future Bo Begeman Bo Begeman 6'4" | SF Clark/Willow Lake | 2027 State SD who is a 6’2” 8th grader and Sully Felberg Sully Felberg 6'6" | SF Clark/Willow Lake | 2028 SD a 6’3” 7th grader both are super gifted and very skilled. We have quite a bit of size coming up and a large number of kids participating so it will be very competitive to make the varsity and starting lineup.“
