Continue ReadingThe CBG Grassroots Tip-Off took place on Saturday at RockIt Sports in Henrico, VA, and it was one of the top events on the east coast with some of the best teams from the DMV, VA and NC in attendance. There were over 30 teams ranging from 17U-15U, with some of the top teams in the area taking place.
We will be spending the next week breaking down the many standouts we saw at the event. If you want to watch the replay, you can see it on the CBG Live Network.
Here’s a look at part one of the many 17U standouts from the event.
Rob Dockery | 6’7” WF | Team Loaded VA
Dockery was arguably the most impressive player from a production standpoint this weekend, as he led Loaded to a 2-0 record with a couple of very impressive performances. At 6’7” Dockery can play on or off the basketball as he has good ball skills and terrific vision and feel as a playmaker, he gets downhill where he’s an excellent finisher around the rim and through contact and he hits the glass as well. He has a smoothness and calm to his game and he brings it against the best of the best.
Lewis Walker | 6’6” F | Team Loaded VA
While Loaded has a lot of wings on their team, they don’t have anyone like Walker who is a walking mismatch that can play both on the perimeter and in the post and uses his size to his advantage. The 6’6” forward is built like a football player and can use that size to clear out space and finish in the paint, he can put it on the deck on the perimeter and get to spots where he can score it in the midrange and he can knock down shots from deep too. He hits the glass and does the dirty work and was consistent on both ends for this Loaded group.
Drew McKenna | 6’7” WF | Team Loaded VA
McKenna is a new addition to this Loaded group and he showed flashes of what makes him so tough with his shot making ability from all over. At 6’7” he has the ability to handle the rock and create space from deep where he can bury shots out to the NBA line, he gets hot quickly and can knock down multiple shots in a row and he’s a solid rebounder and defender as well. He’s still figuring out how to play with this team but he’s as talented a wing as you’ll come across in the class.
Eli Delaurier | 6’9” PF | Team Loaded VA
Delaurier played at a very high level for Loaded in their wins over GATA and Durant, and he showcased the skillset at his size that’s going to have coaches loving him this year. The 6’9” power forward showed his ability to step out on the perimeter where he knocked down shots and made good passes, he ran the floor hard and finished above the rim and he hit the glass and made the hustle plays too. He’s going to be a big part of this team with his mismatch ability and two way impact as well.
Troy McKoy Troy McKoy 6'4" | SG Cushing Academy (MA) | 2024 #200 Nation NLG | 6’5” WG | Team Loaded VA
McKoy is coming off of a breakout junior season at Massanutten, and in his first appearance with Team Loaded he showed he’s willing to accept and can play many different roles as he was one of their best defenders and he picked his spots and scored it efficiently. The 6’5” wing has a strong frame and moves his feet well defensively and he has quick hands to pick ball handlers when the time is right, he shot the ball well from deep off the catch and he showed his ability to create in isolation situations. He’s one of the more well-rounded wings and should see a big uptick in recruitment this summer.
Ibrahim Gati Ibrahim Gati 6'9" | PF Amelia Academy | 2025 State VA | 6’9” PF | Local Legends ’25
Gati is a new name to keep an eye on in the Richmond area, as the Amelia Academy big man is still pretty raw but he has huge upside moving forward. The 6’9” forward has a great frame and moves well as he’s able to get up and down the floor, he has good hands to catch tough passes and good athleticism and touch to finish around the rim and he’s strong and physical in the paint. He has a lot of potential as he continues to learn the game and develop, and he’ll be a guy we keep a close eye on moving forward.
Tony Chau | 5’8” PG | Local Legends
The Cosby point guard may not look the part when he steps on the floor, but he was a consistent floor general who made plays for his team regularly. He handled pressure well and made good decisions with the ball in his hands, he made shots from deep and in the midrange on the pull-up and he set the tone defensively with his ball pressure.
