Team Comments from coach Clay Pottorff
“The Broncs had an up and down season that saw some very high highs and some tough lows. An early January win at home vs Douglas saw the Broncs playing some of their best basketball. That run was capped off by a close win over Redfield after a long bus trip on the same day to East River then following up the next day will a solid win against Langford. Then some tough times hit the Broncs as close losses to Hot Springs and Hill City came on back-to-back nights followed by a Saturday matchup with a ranked North Dakota opponent Bowman County that finished 18-2 in the regular season. Tough BHC battles in February didn’t finish our way and a heartbreaking loss to Mobridge-Pollock at home would’ve made lesser teams fold. But the Broncs stayed strong, got a win against Newcastle late in the regular season then went down to Hill City in the first round of the Region 8A playoffs and knocked off the Rangers 69-61. Belle Fourche played STM tough in the Region 8A Semis, taking a 21-20 lead early in the third quarter but didn’t have enough gas in the tank to compete with STM’s firepower to finish the 2nd half. Anthony Budmayr Anthony Budmayr 6'1" | PG Belle Fourche | 2023 State SD and Anthony Staley Anthony Staley 6'5" | PF Belle Fourche | 2023 State SD led the Broncs with consistent performance and leadership throughout the year. Jet Jensen Jet Jensen 5'9" | PG Bell Fourche | 2025 State SD had some explosive games that showed the potential he has returning for Belle Fourche in the 23-24 season. Tatin Yackley was the glue guy that did a lot of the small things that didn’t show up in the box score and Nolan Wahlfeldt made a lot of big strides offensively as the season progressed. Payton Dvorak and Rance Bowden gave good minutes off the bench as JR’s and will look to step into big production roles for the Broncs in the 23-24 season.“
Starting 5 – Player Comments
Jet Jensen Jet Jensen 5'9" | PG Bell Fourche | 2025 State SD (2025) |5’9 G|
Shifty ballhandler, has a smooth crossover, sweet pull-up J, stepback J is nice, deep 3-point shooting range, effective shooting off catch & dribble, love his follow-through, has a quality runner/floater game, scores in traffic, good vision as a passer, gives up body to take a charge, has sneaky hands on defense.
Anthony Budmayr Anthony Budmayr 6'1" | PG Belle Fourche | 2023 State SD (2023) |6’1 G|
He is a sniper that can hit triples from beyond college range, has a smooth stroke with a quick release, spaces & spreads the floor, will post up for buckets, great stepback game, scores with a step-through, up-n-under, O-boards putbacks, has active hand on defense, a crisp and willing passer.
Anthony Staley Anthony Staley 6'5" | PF Belle Fourche | 2023 State SD (2023) |6’5 F|
He protects the rim and shares the ball, scores going downhill, elevates well, keeps the ball high around the rim, can step out and hit the 3-ball, active on the glass, scores with putbacks, runs the floor well, has a nice scoring touch in the paint, finishes with good body control and concentration, scores after contact.
Nolan Wahlfeldt (2024) |6’2 G/F|
He is a hustler, plays with NRG, unselfish passer, slashes to create for others, opportunistic scorer, scores well in transition, a sharp cutter, can cash in the 3-ball, good hands.
Tatin Yackley (2023) |6’2 G/F|
He is a soft and easy shooter, effective from beyond the arc and an in-rhythm shooter, has good eyes, moves the ball and finds the open man, makes hustle plays.
