Continue ReadingThe Iowa Hoop Dreams – 17U team is the most underrated 17U boys team throughout the state of Iowa and it’s not even close. A team that has every piece a coach could want when looking to put together a competitive spring/summer season of AAU ball. When I say this team has every piece, I really mean it. All of their guards can handle and score from all three levels on the floor with ease on a regular basis, their shooters are lengthy while being scrappy on the defensive end of the floor, and their big men in the middle are skilled and love physicality. This group is going to have a successful spring/summer season this year against some high-level competition, there is no doubt in my mind. They will kick off their season this weekend in Missouri. Make sure to check them out at one of the events below!

Roster
A prospect people need to get on board with ASAP. All around player and playmaker with a whole lot of skill accompanied with great size at 6’5. He does a little bit of everything on the floor for his teams. He is fast and in control when attacking off of the dribble, keeps his head up on all occasions to see the open court, and can finish at the rim with authority. He is very “springy” in his movements near the basket on defense, making him more capable of grabbing a block or two, per contest. Type of player that you love to have on your team but would hate to play against.
Evan Hatcher

Physical power forward who can put it on the ground and finish through contact consistently. Solid shooting stroke from deep when the ball is rotated his direction. Possesses a wide stance and fundamental shot that goes in a good amount when he has an open look. Determined while driving the ball with the intention to go up and through anyone who wants to meet him at the hoop. Scrappy defender who can guard a number of different positions depending on the situation.
Game Changer. Maybe the player with the highest ceiling on this roster when you look at size, production, and IQ. Lengthy player who is an excellent athlete. Handles the ball well and could even bring it down the floor to run the offense if need be. Fundamental shooter who is fantastic when he has his confidence rolling. Type of player you give the ball to with the game on the line when you need a bucket and the type of player you have defend the opposing teams star with the game on the line to get a stop.

Overall hustle player with a lot of heart. Makes the most of his chances while having a good head on his shoulders. Above average handler of the rock. Type of player to be the first on the floor for a loose ball. Plays with a positive attitude and is a good controller of pace when the ball in his hands. A player who is going to step up for some big games this spring/summer for this group.
Shooting guard who is always ready in catch-and-shoot situations outside of the three point line. Doesn’t settle to much when he is over-played from behind the arch. Player whose games really fits the spread offense formation as he is better playing off of the ball rather then having it in his hands all the time. Can catch on fire in blink of an eye and go off for 3-4 three’s in a row. Good defensive instincts. Always jumps to the ball, usually creating a tip or deflection, leading to a turnover for his squad.
Fundamental and smart point guard. Very good at controlling the pace of play and knowing what his offense wants to accomplish. Excellent in catch-and-shoot situations from behind the arc, especially playing against a zone that doesn’t show on the wings. Consistent distributor with above average vision. Can create for others around him, leading into opportunities for his teammates to make some open looks. Quick first step overall. Crafty with the ball once he gets to the middle of the floor after being his initial defender.
One of their big men in the middle. Rim protector for this group with a lot of athletic ability and size at 6’6. More physical then most he goes up against on a regular basis. High motor player with a quick second jump off of the ground in rebounding/put-back situations at the rim. Starting to evolve his game to incorporate a deeper jump shot when defenders put a hand down or don’t respect him. Determined in whatever he is putting his mind to. Good ceiling, who will bring in a lot of eyes this spring/summer from college recruiters if he just plays his game.

Glue Guy. Type of player that comes into a game and does the job he is asked, usually leading to a lot of success for himself and his squad. Better than average shooter with a nice catch and shoot from behind the three. Sneaky quick when it comes to moving side-to-side. Recovery speed is incredible but usually not needed as he is an annoying defender who usually doesn’t give him opponent to much space to operate when they have the ball. Promising athletic ability, overall a nice piece for this team to have.
All around stud. Strong body, smooth all around game, beautiful jump shot when give a moment. Can spread the floor for his team. Can handle and create starting outside the arc or can grab the ball inside the lane and go to work over weaker defenders. If he stays dedicated this next season and keeps on expanding his game like has this past year, he is going to be playing for a successful college program out there in the near future if he would like to do so. In general, he is a gamer.

Only 2025 player that is playing up on this team and for good reason. Solid athlete who is still growing into his body it seems like. Has a great work ethic and is extremely dedicated to the game of basketball. Fundamental player who is very good at playing off of 2 feet. Lengthy but it doesn’t really seem so until he blocks you or gets a steal out of your hands. One of the best perimeter defenders this group will have this spring/summer when you account for length, quickness, and smarts. Maybe a year younger playing up but you would never be able to tell that by looking at him or his game. That says everything you need to know.
