It is an annual award given out to the top senior in the state with past winners including everyone from Oscar Robertson to Glenn Robinson to Eric Gordon. Each year, the winner also gets the honor of wearing the #1 jersey for the Indiana All-Star series. Coaches and media members around the state are given a ballot to fill out voting for their first and second place finisher. So, the “finalists” announcement really just means these were likely the top six vote getters and at least appeared in the top two of some ballots. The 2023 Indiana Mr. Basketball award winner will be announced on April 19th. Here is more information on this year’s leading candidates.
After leading Cathedral to a state championship as a junior, Booker turned in another excellent season as the Irish picked up a second straight Sectional title before falling to eventual state champion Ben Davis in the Regional. The McDonald’s All-American headed to Michigan State averaged 15.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game.
Highlights
Burton was absolutely masterful all season long averaging 30.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 3.3 steals per game. The Notre Dame signee finished his career 20th in state history scoring 2,273 points. He is likely the favorite to hear his name called as the Indiana Mr. Basketball award winner on April 19th.
The super talented 6’5″ wing scored 19.5 points to go with 5.8 rebounds per game as a senior at Heritage Christian. Colvin, a Purdue signee, is one of the most athletic players in the state of Indiana and can also really shoot it from beyond the arc.

If you are looking for the best player on the best team angle, Doughty is your guy. The 6’9″ big man was at the center of everything that led the Giants to a perfect 33-0 state championship season. He finished averaging 13.5 points, 9.2 rebounds and 2.8 blocked shots per game.

A favorite among voters in southern Indiana, Hart has had a fantastic career at Linton-Stockton culminating in 1,901 career points and a Class 2A state runner-up performance as a senior. The Central Florida bound 6’5″ guard averaged 23.7 points per game this season while shooting 39.9% from three-point range.
Highlights
Jones, a Ball State signee, is one of the more versatile forwards in the state and was recently named to the Indiana All-Star team. The 6’7″ Jones 19.6 points and 8.2 rebounds per game for the Vikings. He also finished fourth in school history with 1,410 career points.
