Derin Saran Derin Saran 6’4″ | PG Asheville School | 2023 State NC is a 6-foot-4 point guard prospect that’s worked his way up the 2023 rankings since emerging at the end of the 2020-21 season and remains the top point guard prospect available in the final rankings update. He led Asheville School to a 19-7 record and an appearance in the NCISAA 3A Semifinals of the state playoffs to close out his high school career. He put up impressive numbers at the floor general spot in his senior season with 19.8 ppg, 8.1 rpg and 7.2 apg while showing off his ability to knock down shots and lead the offense with his ability to score and distribute. He holds offers UNC-Wilmington, Campbell, Winthrop, and Wyoming, among some other mid-major programs in the DI ranks as the top available point guard still available.
Kevon Vanderhorst Kevon Vanderhorst 6’1″ | PG Trinity Academy (Raleigh) | 2023 State NC is another top name to know at the point guard spot out of the 919 area. He’s an athletic, wiry floor general that plays with a high IQ and strong presence as a shooting threat with the ball in his hands. He finished his career at Trinity Academy Raleigh as quite the decorated floor general with a 48-10 record with averages of 21.7 ppg, 4.0 apg, 4.0 rpg and 1.4 spg while shooting 30 percent from 3-point range as he remains an uncommitted name in the final 2023 rankings. He knows how to control the pace with his ability to run the show as he did for his squad in 2022-23 before falling in their second round of the NCHSAA State Playoffs. He’s a prospect to keep an eye on this summer on the recruiting scene as a DI prospect with offers and interest from a few mid-major programs already.
’23 Kevon Vanderhorst (@kevon_v4) nearly led the @TAR_Basketball to a comeback in double overtime, knocking down some big shots down the stretch at the lead guard spot!

Jaiden Thompson Jaiden Thompson 6’1″ | PG Central Cabarrus | 2023 State NC is yet another 2023 prospect with DI potential, especially after putting a stellar performance as the 9-seeded NC Vikings made an impressive run to inaugural ThroneHoops Championship Game before running out of gas against Columbus in the final. Central Cabarrus High still took home the NCHSAA 3A State crown over Northwood High within the state borders as Thompson put up 18.3 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 4.3 apg and 3.3 spg while shooting 70 percent from the field. He’s a lead guard that puts constant pressure on opponents with his ability to attack off the bounce and defend the basketball with his quickness and on-ball pressure. He remains an available name in the 2023 final rankings and a top point guard name for programs in need of a game-changing point guard. He’s got a bright future ahead of him on the hardwood.
Highlights
Micah Jones Micah Jones 5’11” | PG Holly Springs | 2023 State NC is a floor general that’s flown under the radar within the 2023 final rankings with offers already from the likes of Lees McRae, Navy and others out of Holly Springs High that’s still on the board. He’s another shifty floor general that knows how to use his quickness and pace with the ball to finish in traffic around the rim and find his teammates in space for easy scores. He was a big reason for the success of the Golden Hawks as a 1-2 combination alongside Georgia Southern signee Collin Kuhl Collin Kuhl 6’8″ | SF Holly Springs | 2023 State NC as they went 26-6 and 13-1 in the Southwest Wake Athletic Conference before falling in the NCHSAA 4A Final Four to Richmond High. He’s a two-way presence that can operate in a variety of ways and make things happen on both ends of the floor as a scrappy floor general. DI and DII programs in the region would be wise to give him a look.
Masaun Moore-Bryant Masaun Moore-Bryant 6’0″ | PG Cape Fear | 2023 State NC is a point guard prospect out of Cape Fear High with a nice feel at the point guard spot. He’s a solid shooting presence both off the bounce and off the catch and just as equally a playmaking threat with his court vision at the lead guard spot. He finished his high school career averaging 18.1 ppg, 4.6 apg, 3.8 rpg and 3.0 spg, showing off his ability to lead by example with his play on the hardwood. He’s a name for DII/DIII/JUCO programs to get ahold of this summer that are in need of a floor general that can push the pace and fill it up as a shot maker in the backcourt. NC Wesleyan has offered him.
