So today we will dig into the Pennsylvania Class of 2024 rankings and review six players who used the 2022-23 high school season to increase their recruiting stock significantly.
Below are six southeastern Pennsylvania 2024 stock risers you need to keep an eye on during the spring / summer grassroots circuit.
65 to 3…Christian Bliss – 6’4” / George School / NY Rens / Combo Guard: Bliss has always been backcourt prospect who could score, run a team, facilitate for others, and defend for 94-feet. But what catapulted him into our Top 5 was his significantly improved jump shot and finishing skills that took his scoring to another level. This season Bliss set a school record by dropping 39 points on ANC. During the PAISSA state tourney he posted games of 25, 23 and finally 29 points in George School’s state title game loss. He also surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his career. Bliss was a 1st Team All-FSL selection for the second consecutive year. He holds several DI offers.
27 to 10… Thomas Sorber Thomas Sorber 6'9" | C Archbishop Ryan | 2024 State #58 Nation PA – 6’8” / Archbishop Ryan / Team Final EYBL / Power Forward: In 2022-23 this power forward well-known for his bully ball game displayed a more polished low post skill set. Improved footwork, a more aggressive approach, and the addition of several “tricks” to his game have enabled Sorber to produce points off quick post ups, pick-n-roll action, dives from the elbows, baseline drives and via the offensive glass. In 2022-23 Sorber posted 18 points, 11 rebounds and 4 block per game. That ridiculous stat line landed him on the 1st Team All-PCL squad. In Ryan’s recent 2nd Round 5A state tourney win Sorber recorded 22 points, 15 boards and 4 blocks. The big fella holds several DI offers.
93 to 15… Kyree Latimer Kyree Latimer 6'3" | CG Constitution | 2024 State PA – 6’3” / Constitution / K-Low Elite / Combo Guard: Latimer is an elusive floor general who can create for himself or facilitate for others off the dribble. He has the handles, basketball IQ and court awareness to get to his favorite spots no matter what gimmick the opposing defense is throwing at him. Latimer is a high percentage three-point shooter as well. The development of his mid-range skills and floater game made Latimer a more complete player and pushed him up the Prephoops.com rankings. This season Latimer averaged 15 points and 5 rebounds to go along with 3 dimes per game. He was also a 1st Team All-Public League selection.
79 to 24… Trey O’Neil Trey O’Neil 6'1" | CG Hill School | 2024 PA – 6’1” / Hill School / NJ Scholars Elite / Combo Guard: This fast, athletic, and high IQ shooting guard demolished opponents during the 2022-23 season. O’Neil did the bulk of his damage from behind the arc. There his quick trigger, continuous off ball movement and NBA distance range make him extremely difficult to guard. If a defender closes out too quickly, O’Neil will use his dribble drive skills and get to the rim. He can get out on the fast break as well. The highlight for O’Neil this season occurred when he canned 7 threes against Rocktop Academy on his way to 30 points.
155 to 35… Aasim Burton Aasim Burton 6'3" | CG Cardinal O'Hara | 2024 State PA – 6’2” / Cardinal O’Hara / East Coast Power / Combo Guard: O’Hara’s extreme up-tempo style maximized Burton’s speed, athleticism and transition scoring which helped produce a breakout year for this 2024. Additionally, Burton (a.k.a. “Flash”) has become high percentage 3-point shooter, an amazing compliment to the rest of his off the dribble skill set. Burton’s highlights form the 2022-23 season include 20 points (4 threes) vs. Haverford School; 19 points and 6 dimes against Roman Catholic and 16 points (2 triples), 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals vs. Archbishop Carroll. He holds offers from Drexel, Fairfield and UTEP.
170 to 98… Ma’Kye Taylor Ma’Kye Taylor 6'7" | PF Imhotep Charter | 2024 State PA – 6’7” / Imhotep Charter / Team Final EYBL / Wing: Last year Taylor was a reserve for Imhotep’s 5A state championship team. Prior to the 2022-23 season he added bulk to his frame and upgraded every facet of his skill set. Those developments resulted in Taylor becoming a key member of ‘Tep’s nationally ranked squad this winter. Taylor (2nd Team All-Public League) has become a fantastic transition scorer, improved his pick-n-roll skills, and developed a consistent 3-point stroke. As a bonus to his enhanced offensive game, this season Taylor was a beast on the glass and a plus defender. He holds an offer from Fairfield and has been contacted by a few other DI schools.
