Avery was a huge part of Dutchtown’s success this year and they exceeded a lot of expectations. He’s got good size for a point guard, shoots it really well from three and has a great all-around feel for the game. He facilitated the offense well for his team on Sunday and knocked down open shots when he had them. High-academic programs still looking for a point guard should take a hard look at Adrian Avery Adrian Avery 6’3″ | CG Dutchtown | 2023 GA .
Highlights
Bilial Djibo
Bilial Djibo
Bilal Djibo immediately caught my eye upon walking into the gym on Sunday morning, having not seen him since his Peachtree Ridge days. He’s added a ton of muscle to his frame in his post-grad year at MGP and he looked a lot stronger driving to the basket because of it. He’s still got that nice change of pace to his handle and is able to attack defenses off the bounce. He also rebounded it really well on Sunday, not afraid to bang inside with the big guys. He’d be a great pickup late in the game for a D2 or NAIA program.
Giovanni Ekoue-Bla
Giovanni Ekoue-Bla
Giovanni Ekoue-Bla is another one of many MGP guys that stood out on Sunday. His defensive presence was felt by every guard that he faced. He’s a terrific on-ball defender and forced a lot of turnovers throughout the day. Offensively, he showed a nice burst off the dribble and operated well in the pick and roll. Ekoue-Bla also displayed a good understanding of body positioning as a ball-handler, keeping defenders behind him or creating space to finish. He’s an available 2023 that can come in and provide quality PG minutes from day one.
Micah Norris Micah Norris 6’5″ | SF Jonesboro | 2023 State GA , 6’5 wing out of Jonesboro, had a solid outing on Sunday that could help make a push late in his recruitment. He’s bounced around between different schools and programs over the years but his talent has always been there. Norris has a strong, athletic build at 6’5 that allows him some positional versatility. He really impressed me with his ability to shoot the ball, knocking down threes and mid-range jumpers while making it look easy. With the right fit, Micah Norris Micah Norris 6’5″ | SF Jonesboro | 2023 State GA could be an impact guy at the next level.
Josh Mathurin
Josh Mathurin
Archer High was well represented on Sunday, Josh Mathurin one of several guys that impressed. He was making things happen all afternoon, attacking gaps in the defense and facilitating the fast break beautifully. Defensively, he plays with toughness and energy. He’s been battle tested at Archer, having faced a lot of high-level guard play over in Gwinnett. Academics check the box too, 3.6 GPA and 1000 SAT.
