With the talent at a peak we have decided that this years Player of the Year is a CO-Player of the Year and they both come from the same school. Congratulations to Kolton Mitchell Kolton Mitchell 6'1" | PG Lake City | 2023 State ID and Blake Buchanan Blake Buchanan 6'10" | PF Lake City | 2023 State #172 Nation ID . Both players were a force and one of the best duo’s out West.
Kolton Mitchell Kolton Mitchell 6'1" | PG Lake City | 2023 State ID quickly became a player that was getting a lot of attention. With Idaho State University snagging him up he was quickly tabbed as a steal. Kolton played a very confident and loose style of play benafited him and his team. Kolton has an elite handle and he is always loaded and ready to shoot the rock. He can hit from deep and he can hit off the dribble, when he is coming off of screens and he is also a threat when he is just up top on the bounce. His attacking style is solid because he can get to his spots at the mid-range and he can also get to the rim and finish or create. His ability to pass and get others involved is elite as well. Over the years he has really developed into an all-around D1 point guard. This season he did it all and he was able to hoist that State Championship trophy at the end of the year.
It is always tough on young players to live up to the hype and the high ranking or the national attention and sometimes it is too much to handle. That was not the case for Blake at all this year. Blake was able to assert himself early and the reputation he had to dunk the ball and run the floor became evident real quick. Blake patrolled the paint on defense and he was blocking everything and he contested shot on the ball and he was elite coming off the ball on rotations protecting as well. On offense he has those over both shoulder shots down and with his mobility and ability to run the floor he was catching lobs and just being a menace on the rim all year long. With Blake in the middle this Lake City team might be the best team we have seen in Idaho.
