Both ended up having successful basketball careers. Connor Harding is still playing ball in Germany and the last time he suited up was in 2016 and since then Idaho has started to produce some talent and when they stay they standout for sure and when they leave to prep schools or other opportunities they always remember where they came from. This years Prep Hoops Idaho Mr. Basketball is Blake Buchanan Blake Buchanan 6'10" | PF Lake City | 2023 State #172 Nation ID out of Lake City High School.
Name: Blake Buchanan Blake Buchanan 6'10" | PF Lake City | 2023 State #172 Nation ID
High School: Lake City High School
Graduation Year: Class of 2023
College Commitment: The University of Virginia
AAU Team: Hooptown
State Champion
Blake was able to cap off a magical season where he helped his team go a perfect 26-0 and go down as one of the best if not the best high school basketball team in Idaho. The 7’0 Center was almost unstoppable as he often got everything and anything he wanted on the floor.
Offensive Breakdown
He is a player that demands at least a double team when he touches the ball. When he doesn;t he can go to work anywhere on the floor. He is better than he gets credit in the mid-post because he can turn and score aor he can back his way in deeper and get a hook or an easy turn around jumper. The way he runs the floor is impressive and should be in the mix to play right away when he lands at Virginia as team that made it to the NCAA Tournament but was upset in the first round.
Defensive Breakdown
Blake is a rim protector but with his simple presence he can alter shots because he will get up and get it. This will likely be the biggest growth he will need to improve on at the next level because he had zero competition that can look at him eye to eye in Idaho. At the AAU Level he did but it will be different going up against players a few years older and stronger. Blake has the ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor.
Overview
No argument that Blake was the best player in the state this year and he proved it every night. Excited to have an Idaho kid representing at a basketball power. He should develop nicely and he could be a big name we hear of soon a she has been in the mix with the top players in the US.
