Oakland Tech beat the Wildcats in three previous games this season, both teams seemed to feed off the sellout crowd at Laney College. Oakland maintained its intensity throughout the game going wire to wire for a 77-61 victory.
The games most notable players:
The Montana Commit had it going early and late. He was the top prospect on the court. He has the basketball skills to score the ball in a variety of ways from different areas on the court. He did his part on the boards and defending. 25pts, 10r.
Standing 5’10 he’s an explosive guard with plenty of hops. He came close to a couple of crowd pleasing put back dunks. He has the handles, speed and explosion to fearlessly challenge bigs in the paint. The unsigned Senior has quick hands, and feet to harass ball handlers 90ft. He’s what you call a pesky on ball defender, who’ll harass ball handlers full court, his quick hands are always stabbing at the ball trying to get tie up. His lateral quickness keeps you from changing directions, and leads you right into traps, he’ll take a charge from a big in the paint. He’s fearless with the ball attacking bigs in the paint. He hit a 3 to start the game.
He’s a solid prospect in the 2024 class. Although he’s improved his offensive skills, he knows what he does best. Work the boards on both ends and use his long reach to defend in the paint. His second half surge was key in the Wildcats stretching their lead. He had multiple put backs, and made it difficult to get buckets inside. 17pts, 7r.
Desmond West
Desmond West
West wasn’t a stat stuffer, but his size and strength gives this team an extra body for the paint area. He’s a good fit for the glue guy. He was strong defending, and using his long arms going after rebounds, and working around the basket in this physical contest. He had a couple put backs for points. He’s best when looking for his points in the paint, he might throw one down. He does have 3pt range.
He’s a small guard with good offensive skills. He’s a versatile team player that can start or come off the bench. He provided an extra lift coming off the bench in this game. He has speed, and quickness with the ball, he sees the court with good passing and he’s a good shooter from behind the arc. He can harass the ball handler.

He’s new to us we’ll see more of him. All indications are he’s a hard working defender who puts most of his energy into defending. He drew multiple charges, and tie ups. He doesn’t concern himself with points right now though he can handle and penetrate the paint. He’s tough working around the basket. He added 4pts from hustle plays around the basket.
The unsigned Senior has been one of NorCal’s most productive guards. He not only can run your offense, but can put points on the boards, that’s what this team needed him to do this season. He started out in his usual ways using his handles and speed to get into the paint for points. It was a physical contest that didn’t really bother him at all he’s a tough competitor on both ends. 23pts, 13-14FT.
