It is hard to believe that the 2023 class is done with their high school careers. It went way too fast! With that said, let’s take a look at seven seniors….
Boston Davis Boston Davis 6'4" | SF Dunseith | 2023 State ND |6’4 SF| Dunseith
13-7 record, All-Region 4 player. 26.3 ppg, 7 rpg, 3 apg. Davis was a volume scorer that could go off and take over the game in the blink of an eye. He exploded for 45 points in a single game and had multiple others where he scored in the 30’s. Davis was known as a deadly shooter from mid-range. Boston could pull up on a dime and knock down shots with a hand in his face. He was a smooth player that was lethal from every angle. Davis was productive on the glass and a scoring machine!
Xyler Carlson Xyler Carlson 6'0" | SG May-Port-C-G | 2023 State ND |6’0 G| May-Port-CG
16-8 record, All-Region 2 selection. Carlson had a monster senior season. He averaged in the high teens and shot the ball at an impressive rate. The Patriots had some impressive wins this season over Thompson, North Border, and Kindred. In the Region Tournament, May-Port knocked off the 19-3 North Border Eagles. Xyler always drew a tough matchup on defense and he was a hard worker. Outside of being a productive scorer, Xyler got after the boards, created for teammates, and forced turnovers on defense. Carlson was an unsung hero for the Patriots.
Joel Edland Joel Edland 6'6" | C Bismarck Century | 2023 State ND |6’6 C| Bismarck Century
25-2 record, State Qualifier. 7.5 ppg, 5.4 rpg, .9 apg, 58 FG%, 78.3 FT%. Edland was the best backup BIG in North Dakota. He was a key reserve for the Patriots. Joel is a standout multisport athlete, in the fall, he was a 1st Team All-State football player. Joel provided rim protection, help-side D, interior scoring, and he cleaned up the glass.
Payton Hochhalter Payton Hochhalter 6'2" | SG Jamestown | 2023 State ND |6’2 G| Jamestown
14-13 record, State Qualifier. 12.4 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 1.8 apg, 48.5 FG%, 62.5 FT%. Payton made 27 three-pointers and shot 33.3% from deep. Hochhalter is a gifted multisport athlete. He is a 2X State Champion in football and was 1st Team All-State this past fall. He will be playing football and baseball at the University of Jamestown. Payton is a major athlete that scored well at the rim and he could hit from outside. On the hardwood, Hochhalter stood out with his athleticism and never-backdown attitude.
Nick Parries Nick Parries 5'11" | CG West Fargo | 2023 State ND |5’11 G| West Fargo
8-15 record. 14 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 2.4 apg, 42 FG%. Nick hit 45 triples and put them in at a 35% rate. Parries was the top-scoring guard for the Packers this season and scored in doubled digits 17 times. Parries had an uncanny ability to score the ball and he exceeded everyone’s expectations. Nick showcased fantastic footwork in the paint and he always gave 100% effort. He worked diligently every day and improved throughout the season.
Kyler Klein Kyler Klein 6'0" | CG Shiloh Christian | 2023 State ND |6’0 G| Shiloh Christian
21-5 record, Region 5 Champion, 2nd place at State. Klein was an All-Region 5 player and he also made the All-Tournament Team at the State Tournament. Kyler did the little things for the Skyhawks and he was a team-first player. He was a fundamental guard that made selfless plays. Klein is a quick backcourt player and he held his own on defense. Kyler was also a leader for the Skyhawks.
Trenton Erbele Trenton Erbele 6'2" | SF Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter | 2023 State ND |6’2 SF| Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter
8-14 record, District 6 Senior Athlete of the Year. Erbele was an imposing player with his strength and toughness. He was a full-contact player that had no trouble scoring with a man in his grill. He was physical around the basket and he also thrived with an efficient mid-range game. He gobbled up rebounds and was a leader for the Imperials.
