2A State Champions: Aliceville Yellow Jackets
Tyjarian Williams (6’3/G/F/’23/Aliceville)
Instagram: _ty.wi11iams
Ty is a stout and physical wing and low-post player. He isn’t the tallest, but his frame helps him carve out space on the low-block and in the paint. He is quick off his feet and had some huge rebounds throughout the game. He has a combination of power and strength and uses both to finish plays in the paint. He showed in the championship game that he has the ability to be a walking double-digit rebounder even though he was one rebound shy of having double-digit boards. T is hard to guard as he has a perimeter game and post-up game in which he produces from in both areas. He played with tremendous energy and made plays that contributed to his squad’s championship victory.
6pts (2-8 fg), 9rebsHe Finished With The Following Stat Line:
Jatavius Colvin (6’0/G/’23/Aliceville)
Jatavius started the game slow offensively but was imposing his will on the defensive end of the court as he was speeding up St. Luke’s ball-handlers, which led to turnovers or bad decisions. He has a nice bounce to his game, and when he finally got it going, you could tell that Aliceville relies on his scoring ability. He can score at all levels but was really aggressive attacking the rim. He is a shifty guard with straight-line speed and lateral quickness and is able to get to his spots on the floor where he likes to do work. Jatavius has nice handles and a good dribble-drive game, and he’s scary in the open court. We will be dropping more about JC as he looks to make his move to the next level.

Tyquan Simon (6’3/G/F/’24/Aliceville)
Instagram: ty_simon23
Tyquan is a physical guard that was extremely tough off the bounce. He struggled to put the ball in the basket and wasn’t very efficient from the field, yet he made some huge plays at crucial moments throughout the game, especially a big shot down the stretch. Even though he struggled offensively, he competed with tremendous effort. He was solid in a lot of facets of the game, and he was vital to his team winning the championship. He was a playmaker who liked to put the rock on the floor and create scoring opportunities for himself and others. He will have some huge shoes to fill next year if he hopes to lead his team back to the BJCC.

St. Luke’s Wildcats
Javonte Nickles (6’4/C/’24/St. Luke’s)
Instagram: tayysotrim
JaVonte is a front-court player that impacted the game with his size and length. He showed offensive versatility as he played with his back to the basket and was able to step out and knock down the trey ball. He is active on the glass as he goes after the ball with tenacity. He has a quiet toughness about him that came out as the game went on. He is listed at 6’4, but he definitely played bigger than that. His size at the center spot is ok for now, but he will definitely need to work this off-season on expanding his game to the perimeter, where he can create off the bounce. He showed good hands and feet, even though more growth is needed in both areas. He challenged shots in the paint and at the rim and was a factor in the paint defensively.
6pts (2-2 [1-1 3-Ptr]), 5Rebs, 4BlksHe Finished With The Following Stat Line:
Brandon Cooks (6’1/G/’24/St. Luke’s)
The one thing you recognize about Brandon’s game as the game went on is that he is a volume shooter. He is a slasher off the bounce and is difficult to keep out of the paint. He looks to dominate each possession as he is a downhill attacking guard that is laser-focused on getting to the cup. With the amount of pressure he puts on the rim, he often finds himself at the line because his game draws fouls. He is a scorer off the bounce and is streaky with his perimeter jumper. He functions as a triple-threat player that can contribute as a shooter, passer, and driver. The bottom line about Brandon’s game is that he can run the show or go for big points.
20pts (6-18 [1-6 3-Ptr]), 6rebsHe Finished With The Following Stat Line:
Mike Myles (5’7/G/’24/St. Luke’s)
Mike is a multi-level scorer that can get it done in a variety of ways. He has a nice feel for the game and feel for getting his shot. He moves well without the ball and operates within the flow of the offense but can create his own shot when needed. Mike’s tenacity on the glass was impressive; he was probably the best glass cleaner under 6’0. He is a small guard with a low center of gravity that has blow by speed off the bounce. He was productive in creating off-the-bounce and a key piece in the back-court. He was strong on the glass and was also a pest on the defensive end of the court, as he has really quick hands and moves his feet well.
