Team Comments from coach Galen Eberhard
“These kids came into the season with little to no varsity experience. All of the experience from the prior season either transferred out or graduated. We had a great young core who really bought into the system and made basketball a priority. The future is definitely bright at C-EB!”
Q&A with coach Eberhard
PHD: How would you sum up the season for your squad?
Coach Eberhard: “Record wise our season was a disappointment. Growth wise our season was an absolute success. We had a young group of athletes who despite our record and all the bumps wed taken, never once threw in the towel and continued to show up every day for practice and learn.“
PHD: What were some of the highlights that stick out?
Coach Eberhard: “We were in many games with a chance to win this season but came up just short. The highlight that sticks out to me the most is a come-from-behind win versus a Little Wound team that had beaten us by 30 points at the beginning of the season.“
PHD: How did your team overcome adversity?
Coach Eberhard: “The day before the first practice of the season the team lost their brother and leader, Davyn LeBeau, in a motor vehicle accident. Davyn was a natural leader whom all the kids looked towards for leadership.“
PHD: Who were some of your hardest workers and what did they do?
Coach Eberhard: “ Levi Elk Nation Levi Elk Nation 5'8" | CG Cheyenne-Eagle Butte | 2026 State SD (9th)! He got the opportunity to start one game and he never let it go. He goes full blast on every possession whether we are up by 5 or down by 30! Listed at 5’7 (that might be giving him a couple of inches) he led the state in charges taken (according to max preps).“
PHD: Who are a couple of role players that stood out to you?
Coach Eberhard: “Kingslee Parker (11th) is a very gifted basketball player. His season was riddled with injuries that kept him off the court a lot this season.“
“Todd LaPlante (11th). Todd is a very good shooter and one of our best defenders.“
“Braxton Kennedy (11th). Big Brax as we call him made leaps and bounds this season. He is a big (6’6) with a knack for scoring the ball.“
PHD: Can you talk about your seniors and what will be missed?
Coach Eberhard: “ MacKenzie Cass MacKenzie Cass 6'3" | SG Cheyenne-Eagle Butte | 2023 State SD is a super smooth guard with great range. Mack is definitely our team’s leader and he did a great job of leading by example.“
“Tigh Garreau, there was not a job that Tigh was not willing to do on the court. He’d guard the other team’s biggest player one minute and be on the ball full court the next.“
“Umpo Makes Room For Them is our glue guy, he can get hot and hit from anywhere. He’s a leader on and off the floor.“
“These boys will be greatly missed, not just for their basketball games but for their character!“
PHD: Who are some up-and-comers to look out for in the future?
Coach Eberhard: “ Levi Elk Nation Levi Elk Nation 5'8" | CG Cheyenne-Eagle Butte | 2026 State SD (9th) See above.“
“ Damien Clown Damien Clown 5'11" | CG Cheyenne-Eagle Butte | 2026 State SD (9th) led the team in 3-pointers made this season. He is also a future cross-country star!“
“ Nehemiah Veaux Nehemiah Veaux 6'0" | SG Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Braves | 2026 State SD (9th), Neo has a very high basketball IQ mixed with a great skill set. Very good defender. Hits the open shot and knows when to attack the basket.“
“Austin Johnson (9th), an all-around player, Austin really improved on the defensive side of the ball. Very composed offensively for a freshman.“
“Dayson Kennedy (9th) Highest motor on the team and one of our better shooters on the team. Plays with a lot of heart and emotion.“
“ Easton Lawrence Easton Lawrence 6'5" | PF Cheyenne-Eagle Butte | 2025 State SD (10th) Big E is one of the strongest HS kids I’ve ever known. He is smooth with either hand. Was our second-leading scorer this season and will be a focal point next season. He was on the All-Nation football All-state team.“
“Danah Diver (10th) Danah is a high-motor kid who plays hard. Danah is also a part of the All-Nation football All-State Team.“
