From the onset Peoria looked as if they planned to get Bradshaw Mountain in a fast paced game. Even though Bradshaw Mountain had a size advantage they were never able to capitalize off of it. Peoria jumped out to a 10-2 lead and didn’t stop there. They continuously applied pressure to the Bears finishing off the first quarter with a 18-5 lead. Even as Bradshaw Mountain seemed to get a little settled on the offensive end they still couldn’t cut much into the deficit. They got as close as 11 during the 2nd quarter. At the end of the second quarter Peoria led 34-18.
In the third quarter Peoria continued to the shoot the ball at a high percentage especially from three. They got the lead up to as much as 27. Going into the fourth quarter the Panthers had a 59-37 lead. In the fourth quarter it was just a matter of Peoria keeping Bradshaw Mountain at a safe distance even though the Bears continued to fight to get back into the game. The benches were cleared for both teams and Peoria ended with a 67-53 victory and a trip to the 4A Boys Championship game.
Here are some of the standouts from this game.
Andrew Camacho Andrew Camacho 6'1" | CG Peoria | 2023 State AZ Peoria
Recently coming off an injury Camacho seemed to be closer to his regular self. He was scoring from all three levels from deep threes to scoop shots at the rim. He got his offense going while also keeping his teammates involved as evident by his near double digit assists. He also took a charge as he is one of the all time leaders in the state in that category.
Calvin Windley Calvin Windley 6'3" | SF Peoria | 2023 State AZ Peoria
The lefty wing was efficient while also being very active. He hit multiple three’s and looked very comfortable doing so. When his feet are set he’s an extremely tough cover because he’s equally explosive going to the paint. His energy on the court is infectious as he’s always going at full speed.
Amari Lawrence Amari Lawrence 6'4" | SG Bradshaw Mountain | 2023 State AZ Bradshaw Mountain
The senior guard has good size and used it to his advantage shielding off smaller defenders. He showed a very mature and composed game as even though his team was being pressured he was never really sped up too much. Lawrence also showed a very nice mid range pull up jumper.
Caden Bass Caden Bass 6'4" | CG Paragon Science Academy | 2026 State AZ Peoria
Bass has gotten better and more efficient as the season has went on. He shot the three ball at a high rate and got his shots within the flow of the offense. He’s very good at being ready to shoot when his opportunity comes up.
Ben Wilder Ben Wilder 6'5" | SF Bradshaw Mountain | 2023 State AZ Bradshaw Mountain
Wilder has been one of the better players in Northern AZ for awhile and he showed why. He attacked off the dribble making some difficult shots and showed to be a capable three point shooter. He’s also a very good passer while playing as a primary ball handler.
Caden Reed PF 6’6 2023 Bradshaw Mountain
The senior has a nice frame and isn’t afraid to throw it around. He repeatedly battled inside for position. Reed also showed a good touch and didn’t try to do too much outside of his game. He displayed a good face up game offensively.
Christopher Brookins Christopher Brookins 5'9" | PG Bella Vista Prep | 2025 State AZ Peoria
The jet quick point guard is a stat filler as leading the team in rebounding while spearheading the offense as well as the defense. On offense he is so fast that even routine defensive stops can turn into one man fast breaks. On the defensive end he was a ball hawk and never let the person he was guarding get comfortable. His low center of gravity and quick hands allows him to collect steals in bunches.
