Continue ReadingThe end of the high school season is the best time to throw a fresh update on class rankings and our latest 2024 update went live on Monday. We added 40 new players to the mix, upping the total ranked prospects from 85 to 125. In this piece we take a closer look at the biggest stock risers.
Kyelin King Kyelin King 6'4" | SF Legacy Early College | 2024 State SC , Lincoln, Previous Rank: 54, New Rank: 41
King showed that he’s one of the more versatile and productive all-around prospects in the San Diego area. The 6-foot-4 wing/forward thrived as a defensive specialist and high-rate rebounder and added in a scoring element to his game that made him that much more effective for his team. King is a rangy and athletic wing who can really slash his way to the rim and score in half-court and transition offense.
Scotty Belnap Scotty Belnap 6'5" | SG Mater Dei | 2024 State CA-S , Mater Dei, Previous Rank: 50, New Rank: 44
Belnap spent much of the season coming off the bench after starting his sophomore season for the Monarchs. Once talented freshman Che Brogan left the school, and Belnap was inserted back into the starting five, he showed that he was ready to be a go-to offensive guy when needed. The 6-foot-5 wing’s speciality is the three-point shot and he hit the third most among a roster filled with good shooters from deep.
Jonathan Moxie Jonathan Moxie 6'2" | CG Santa Margarita | 2024 State CA-S , Santa Margarita, Previous Rank: 79, New Rank: 65
What we appreciate most about Moxie’s game is that he’s a steady, smart and pass-first type of point guard who knows how to control the pace of a game. The strong-framed 6-foot-2 junior is solid in every aspect of the game and is that prototypical extension of his head coach on the floor with the way he operates. Moxie limits turnovers, gets paint touches and kicks to open shooters and understood how to feed his big man and play inside-out offense.
Desman Botts Desman Botts 6'4" | SF Mayfair | 2024 State CA-S , Mayfair, Previous Rank: 76, New Rank: 66
Botts proved to be one of the more dynamic athletes in the region and his ability to run the floor, catch, elevate and finish in one motion or catch and put the ball on the deck for straight-line drive buckets was impressive. Botts also made strides as a defender from his instincts on playing passing lanes to his ability to guard multiple positions.
