Continue ReadingWith the 2022-23 high school season approaching Regional and State Championship games, the Prep Hoops SoCal staff put a fresh update on the class of 2023 rankings. The list went from 130 players to 175 and there was plenty of movement among players on the board. In this piece we break down some of the best unsigned seniors remaining on the board.
Isaiah Sherrard Isaiah Sherrard 6'7" | SF Oak Park | 2023 State , Oak Park
Sherrard seems to still be kind of an unknown or under-recruited player because he’s dealt with some injuries in each of the last couple of seasons but the program that eventually lands him are getting a player who is the definition of versatile. The 6-foot-7 wing can handle it and shoot on the perimeter, has the length and athleticism to guard multiple positions defensively and has a frame with plenty of room to add to in the right college weight lifting program.
Jaqari Miles Jaqari Miles 6'2" | CG West Ranch | 2023 State , West Ranch
Miles’ scoring abilities are what makes him such an intriguing prospect at the next level. The 6-foot-2 combo guard can hit deep jumpers both off the catch and off the bounce, has mid-range scoring ability with pull-up jumpers and is a crafty finisher around the basket. Miles also has good feel when playing out of ball-screen action and breaking defenders down in isolation situations.
Keyon Kensie Keyon Kensie 6'7" | SF Taft | 2023 State , Taft
Kensie is still a raw prospect from a basketball standpoint but his size and athletic gifts along with his natural feel for the game are what will land him at a Division 1 program. The 6-foot-7 lefty is both smooth and explosive as a driver and finisher at the rim but can also step out and knock down perimeter jumpers off the catch and mid-range jumpers off the bounce. It will be interesting to see which program pulls the trigger on such a high upside prospect and what they can develop him into.
Denzel Hines Denzel Hines 6'5" | PF Colony | 2023 State CA , Colony
Hines is a player who has plenty of Division 2 options on the table but is still holding out hope that a Division 1 school will come in late and offer him a scholarship. Normally at this juncture, especially in the current landscape of recruiting, one would advise a prospect to take that full D2 scholly and run with it but Hines is the type of player who could benefit from staying patient. The 6-foot-6 forward has a college-ready frame and college-ready athleticism to go along with an improving and versatile game. Hines has shown that he can stretch the floor to the 3-point line, take bigger, slower defenders off the bounce for straight-line drive finishes and defend multiple positions.
Mikah Ballew Mikah Ballew 6'6" | SF Valencia | 2023 State , Valencia
Ballew has quietly put together a strong season at Valencia and continues to fly a bit under-the-radar when it comes to recruiting. The 6-foot-5 wing is a multi-level shot-maker with good size and strength for the position. Like some others on our best unsigned lists, Ballew could see his game take off once he’s in a college weight program and improves his frame. He has the ball skills and shooting ability to play on the perimeter offensively but will need to tighten his frame to defend a wing at the next level.
