Regional tournaments are almost over and there are hundreds of Seniors who already played their final game of high school basketball. Let’s take a look at the best point guards in the final 2023 rankings. This does not include players in the top ten of the class overall as those have already been covered in another article.
Grant slipped down the rankings after missing most of his Senior season due to a back injury that occurred in preseason. Murray endured an up and down season while Whitaker was out but he was able to come back at the end of the season. Looking ahead to Bellarmine next year, don’t be surprised to see Grant redshirt (most freshmen at Bellarmine do) then have a career that includes multiple years as the starting point guard for the Knights.
One of the best unsigned prospects left in the Senior class, Roberts has been one of the best and most impactful players in the 8th region over his 5 year career for the Mustangs. Dallas has shown an advanced skill set that allows him to score the ball or distribute to teammates.
Gerard has been one of the most impactful players in the second region for the past few seasons and earned the regional player of the year award this season. Thomas is quick and tough and is an advanced playmaker who can get paint touches consistently and excels at making tough finishes in traffic.
The best shooter on this list, Jack has been one of the better players in Louisville for a few years now. Edelen is undersized but uses angles really well to score the ball against bigger defenders. Depending on which level he commits to, Jack could have a huge role as a freshman next season.
Kai has had a monster Senior season for a Douglass team that has been among the best in the state all season. A big point guard at 6’3, Simpson could be the best long term prospect on this list thanks to his size and ability to guard multiple positions. Kai has improved as a shooter from deep and is a true three level scorer at this point in his development.
