It’s no surprise however that a class with so much talent at one position can have many players who are just as good but often get overlooked. Here are my five most underrated shooting guards for the 2023 class.
Reiss is a nice two-way player that seems to do everything when he’s on the court. He can pick off passes at a high rate leading to many fastbreak points for his team. Reiss loves the catch and shoot three ball as he gets open for them in either inbound plays or off-ball screens. He can finish at the rim with both hands while absorbing contact. If Reiss can get more consistent at getting to the free throw line his game will get taken to another level.
Demara is a knockdown shooter with unlimited range once he passes the half-court line. His ability to always crash the glass at will is something that coaches love because of his ability to generate second-chance points for the team. He moves his feet laterally very well as he will rarely get beat off the dribble by another player. Demara’s help defense is great as he makes up for a lot of his team’s mistakes. His unselfish play is another reason his team can generate points when given any opportunity his team gets.
Wilkins is an explosive guard that can get to the rim whenever he wants. He can finish at the rim no matter who stands in the way or dares to test him with his elite athletic ability. Wilkins’s smooth left-handed shot from deep will keep the defense guessing every possession when guarding him. His quick instincts allow him to pick off passing lanes well to allow him to score on the fastbreak. One thing to point out with Wilkins is that he does seem to favor his left hand when getting to the rim. He will become nearly unguardable if he can score just as well with his right hand.
Loscalzo is the definition of a catch-and-shoot player. He never stops moving as he loves to get open coming off of off-ball screens a lot. Every team needs a player like Loscalzo in this new era of three-point shooting as he is a free three points every time the ball is released from his hands. He extends his range the more shots he makes in a game. If Loscalzo can work on finishing at the rim more he will just add another element to his already efficient skillset.
Highlights
Ganton is an excellent three-level scorer as there is no weakness in his offensive game. He can shoot it from deep, hit the pull-up midrange, and finish at the rim with both hands. Ganton will even crash the glass at the guard position putting more pressure on the opposing team. Ganton also seems to always have a knack for the ball as he is always in the right place and at the right time. He gets his teammates involved and is great at defense. He is just an overall complete player that will only get better.
