I was able to make it over to the West side of Indianapolis for Columbus East at Mooresville. Then, later in the week, I took on small town Indiana basketball in Farmersburg with Shakamak at North Central. Let’s take a look at the top prospects from those two games last week.
DeFur is a 2025 wing who has been impressive in his varsity career thus far. He is a very smart player with a lot of length, and he knows how to use it on both ends of the floor. He also can score it from all three levels with a great mid-range and a nice stroke from the outside. He can get into some lulls where he stops looking to score, but when he is on the attack, he is very tough to stop. This kid should put up some big numbers for Mooresville.
Highlights
Wyatt Ison
Wyatt Ison
Ison is a shifty 2023 guard who handles the ball well. he is quick to the floor, and he can finish around the rim with both strength and toughness. He finished with 23 points in the win, but his decision-making is very questionable at best. He gets sped up way too easily, but when he slows down, he is a very good player.
May is tough 2024 guard who has a ton of length. He struggled early on, but he was aggressive in the lane. He is lethal in the open floor and looks to score whenever he gets the basketball. His length on the defensive end of the floor makes things tough for his opponents. He finished with 16 points in the win.
Patterson is a 2023 guard who is committed to Saginaw Valley State to play quarterback. He has a ton of strength and quickness and is always looking to get to the rim. He is a physical player who can finish through contact and is not afraid of a dust up when fighting for rebounds. He has the potential to be a star on the gridiron in the future.
Reeves is a bigger 2023 guard who has very good touch around the rim and outside court vision. He was dishing the ball all over the court. It seemed like every time that he touched the basketball that the ball would get where it needed to go. Reeves finished with 11 points and 5 assists in the win.
Ben Sylva
Ben Sylva
Sylva is a 2023 guard who has a very good shooting stroke and can score it from all three levels. He likes to pull-up in the mid-range and he is very good on the catch and shoot. Sylva scored 17 in the loss and helped keep the Olympians in the game early on.
Kayne Wade
Kayne Wade
Wade is a 2023 wing who can light it up from the floor when he gets going. Late in the game, he seemed to be forcing shots at times to try to make things happen, but he was making them. Wade finished with 18 points in the win and also pulled down 11 rebounds for his double double. He is going to be a big key for Shakamak if they want to pull the upset come March.
