Obviously some of these players are positionless players that can fit in multiple spots, but we did our best to categorize them based on their skillset.
Here’s a look at part one of the top shooting guards and small forwards in the new rankings.
18) Andrew Maria Andrew Maria 6'5" | SG Yorktown | 2025 State VA | 6’2” SG | Yorktown (#54 Overall)
Maria was an important piece off the bench for a Yorktown program that is on the rise and he’s going to be a name to know in NOVA over the next few years. Maria is your prototypical scoring two guard who can knock down shots from deep off the catch, he can put it on the deck and get to spots for pull-ups and he’s very good defensively particularly in full court pressure.
17) Johnny Callow Johnny Callow 6'0" | SG Herndon | 2025 State VA | 6’0” SG | Herndon (#52 Overall)
While Herndon struggled this season, they have a lot to look forward to as they started 3 sophomores this year, with Callow being perhaps the most naturally gifted of them. The two sport star is a natural athlete with good speed and explosion, he’s a fluid ball handler who can create in isolation situations and he can make shots from multiple levels as well.
16) Belgude Choijilsuren Belgude Choijilsuren 6'0" | SG Fairfax | 2025 State VA | 6’0” SG | Fairfax (#48 Overall)
Choijilsuren is following in the footsteps of his brother Margad who is the senior leader on this Fairfax team, and he’s emerging as one of the top shooters in the area himself. He hasn’t hit the growth spurt his brother has but that’s likely coming, and he’s the type of player who will almost always make you pay if you leave him open and he has time to get set from deep.
15) Aiden Caulker Aiden Caulker 6'4" | SG Bishop O'Connell | 2025 State VA | 6’4” SG | Bishop O’Connell (#43 Overall)
Another younger brother on this list, Caulker’s older brother Corey is the starting point guard for O’Connell and looking long term Aiden might have more upside than his brother. The 6’4” two guard already has great size and is likely still growing, he’s a natural athlete who can play on or off the basketball and he has great instincts on the defensive end too.
14) Gabriel D’Alessandro | 6’3” SG | STAB (#42 Overall)
While D’Alessandro plays behind some more experienced guys on this talented STAB team, he’s also part of a talented young group that will have the Saints competing for years. The 6’3” wing is built well with good strength to be able to play through traffic, he can drill it from deep and attack closeouts and he isn’t afraid to stick his nose in and do the dirty work either.
13) Landon Harvey Landon Harvey 6'4" | SG Battlefield | 2025 State VA | 6’4” SG | Woodberry Forest (#41 Overall)
Harvey is another shooter in the central part of the state to keep an eye on, as he can flat out drill it from deep and is starting to expand his game as well. He moves well off the ball and gets his feet set quickly, he has a quick release with good form and excellent range and he has a very good basketball IQ and rarely makes mistakes.
12) Frank Macnelly Jr. | 6’4” SF | Collegiate (#40 Overall)
MacNelly is emerging as another young piece on this Collegiate team to go along with sophomore guard Donovan Richardson Donovan Richardson 6'6" | PG Steward | 2025 State #166 Nation VA to build around for the Cougars. At 6’4” he already has good size and is likely still growing, he’s a knock down shooter from deep who moves well off the ball to get open and he’s a high IQ player on both ends of the floor.
