City Section used to dominate the high school basketball landscape back in the day and while more emphasis has been placed on Southern Section in recent years, there is still talent in City Section to watch. Here’s a look at some of the City Section forwards to keep an eye on as the playoffs get underway this week.

Blunt is a player who does a lot of the little things that don’t show up in box scores. He gives full effort on every possession and dives after loose balls. He’s able to play either forward position and is able to handle the ball in transition. In the halfcourt he can handle the ball as well and get to the basket where he can finish strong at the basket. Good midrange jumper. Good activity on the glass, uses his size well and positions himself to grab rebounds.

Adams is a versatile player who usually plays as the team’s center but is best suited to being a big wing/forward who can score in multiple ways. He has solid handles and he’s comfortable creating his shot off the dribble. He can put the ball on the floor and attack slower defenders and he can post up against smaller wings. He’s always active around the basket, he has an efficient touch in the paint and he crashes the glass well. He’s comfortable shooting jumpers either with midrange pull-ups or face-up/transition three-point shots.
3. Aidan Donald – Venice 2023
Donald is a tough forward who always plays bigger than his size. Donald uses his size and strength well to muscle his way to the basket and score. He’s comfortable putting the ball on the floor against bigger players and getting the rim. Active on the offensive glass with second chance opportunities. He can operate in the mid-post area and makes strong, aggressive moves to the basket. Active defender too and able to block shots.

Corona is a very good defensive player. He acts as a rim protector and does a good job challenging shots at the basket and stopping drives. He has quick feet too and is able to rush out to the three-point line and close out well on shooters. On the offensive end, he has a nice touch around the basket and is able to get good post position and seal his defender. He has very good size and strength and is kind of a late bloomer. Solid on the glass.
