On Monday we traveled to Serra for a CCS Open Pool Play game between Serra 65, and Santa Cruz 53. Serra continued it’s winning ways with a stunning victory over favored Archbishop Mitty on Wednesday 50-49 to earn a spot in the CCS Open Finals.
On Tuesday PH NorCal took the trek across the Bay Bridge to see a NCS Div III semifinal contest against The Branson and Piedmont. The Branson handled Piedmont 61-40 to set up a DIII Finals against Pinole Valley.
Wednesday Sacred Heart Cathedral took town Menlo Atherton 72-59 and will play Serra for the CCS Open Title. Here we’ll touch on some of the standouts from the games we attended.
Ryan Pettis Ryan Pettis 6'2" | CG Serra | 2024 State CA-N 6’3 2024 Guard from Serra
He’s one of the hottest prospects in the CCS Play-Offs right now. On Wednesday he scored 21pts in victory. He showed the quickness, change of speed, and burst of energy guards should have. He’s an excellent passer with vision, he can hit deep 3’s. He’s a confident prospect who can knock down the big shot. He’s a bit underrated as a defender.
Aden Curry Aden Curry 6'5" | SF Santa Cruz | 2023 State CA-N 6’4 2023 G/F from Santa Cruz
He’s expanded his overall skill set and it shows by the numbers he’s been putting up this season. Standing 6’4 he can score in all the areas on the court. He’s steadily improved his play from the guard position, yet he’s has the ability to effectively get buckets in the post area when needed. 24pts, 4rebs, 3asts.
Semetri Carr Semetri Carr 6'1" | PG Branson | 2025 State #95 Nation CA-N 6’1 2025 PG from The Branson
He’s a top PG in NorCal regardless of class. He’s continued on the upward path this season upping his scoring, and rebounding on this team. His combined quickness, and body control allows him to go wherever he wants on the court. He’s good off the dribble knocking down pull jumpers with lift. He’s hitting 3’s with confidence, no hesitation and a good release. 19pts, 7rebs.
AJ Harris AJ Harris 6'5" | SF Piedmont | 2023 State CA-N 6’5 2023 W/F from Piedmont
Harris is one of the best scorers in NorCal. He gets all the attention when he steps on the court, teams game plan for him, they double, and sometimes triple team him to get the ball out of his hands. He still puts up high totals consistently. He has many tools in the box to create his scoring opportunities. He uses his body, good foot work, ball fakes, pump fakes, rip throughs, and jab steps. 28pts, 10rebs.
Michael Manfreda 6’4 2023 Wing from Sacred heart Cathedral
He serves as the man in the middle to start the game. He wasted no time establishing an inside presence before expanding his game. He used foot work, patience, and a jump hook to get his paint points. He’s a bit thin but has long arms and can move at a good pace. His drive, spin into the paint worked. He ran to the corners for 3’s. 15pts, 2-3’s, 4rebs
Johno Price Johno Price 6'2" | CG Menlo Atherton | 2023 CA-N 6’3 2023 Guard from Menlo Atherton
He plays on the egde sometimes getting himself out of the flow. He’s a competitive two sport athlete (football) that wants to win. He has a good body and skills to be productive in many ways. He has the handles and speed to get into the paint from different angles, he’ll launch a long 3 that will go in. He’s shown he can run point at times. He defends with energy multiple positions. 13pts, 3rebs.
