Class 4A Superior Performances (2/28)

STATEWIDE Tennessee – The big boys, Class 4A was filled with riveting games Tuesday night.

Here’s a look at who made it through in 4A:

Region 1
Morristown West – Dobyns-Bennett

Sevier County – Daniel Boone

REGION 2 Semifinals
Karns (78) – Oak Ridge (72)

The hosting Beavers blocked four shots in the opening 150 seconds of game action! Unfortunately, KHS spoiled their opportunity by repeatedly shooting unimaginative three-pointers. Karns plays best when J.J. Faulkner is dribbling past his defender.

Capitalizing on their flat offensive start, Wildcat wing Kaden Brightharp attacked particularly aggressively.

Down 9-2, District MVP J.J. Faulkner sparked a 9-0 run.

William Blount (54) – Bearden (51)

Bearden and Oak Ridge are THE powers of TN’s eastern third, at least in the 21st century. Neither are still alive thanks to Karns and William Blount.

William Blount is now 30-4. Defeating Bearden is always unlikely, for anyone anywhere. The Govs must be proud.

Blackman – Cane Ridge

LaVergne – Rockvale

REGION 5 Semifinals

Green Hill – Beech
Green Hill Hawk Garrett Brown played very well. He hit an outside shot to open the game, and also found his teammates well as a passing guard.

Beech played the first quarter perfectly, defending the paint with ferocity and patiently running offense.

Aaron Mattingly Aaron Mattingly 6'5" | SG Green Hill | 2025 State TN made the final Beech shot of the quarter difficult merely by sliding his feet and upraising his arms to challenge a short layup.

The end of the third quarter was sloppy. Parker Overath Parker Overath 6'1" | PG Green Hill | 2023 State TN tried to force Beech into a speedy possession, as opposed to letting them drain the final 40ish seconds. Unfortunately, Jordan Lee Jordan Lee 6'1" | PG Beech | 2024 State TN (Beech) blitzed by him and expertly dished to his forward, capitalizing on the overcommitted defender. Then, Mattingly wanted to feed Overath, but the defender overplayed, and Mattingly tossed the basketball out-of-bounds.

Overall, Jordan Lee Jordan Lee 6'1" | PG Beech | 2024 State TN played with fantastic poise and patience. Teammate Odell Bradley earned his way to the free throw line late. Beech relied upon him to generate offense in a frantic, late-game scenario. Bradley earned All-District honors earlier this month.

Kenny Ellis Kenny Ellis 5'11" | PG Green Hill | 2024 State TN hit the lane with speed. He swiveled with a pirouette and instantly lofted the ball up onto the glass. Bucket. Beech lead 45-44. Green Hill timeout. After two free throws

Burch hit a mid-range shot to draw to 47-46 with 40 seconds left. Frantic scrambling occurred seconds later as Beech tried to break a hurried press. Timeout Beech Coach Kip Brown!

Banked three-pointer good for Jason Burch Jason Burch 6'5" | C Green Hill | 2023 State TN of Green Hill! Didn’t see who shot. 49-49 with 7.5 seconds left. Timeout. Beech ball.

Green Hill’s Kenny Ellis Kenny Ellis 5'11" | PG Green Hill | 2024 State TN forced a steal, and before a blink scored a three-pointer! The ball was Beech’s and Kenny flipped the table and ended their dinner party! With 2.4 left, Beech was in an absurdly different world then they lived in a mere 30 seconds of gametime prior.

Inbounds, tipped. Green Hill wins! Insane finish. Beech was crushed.
