Severson ended with 22 points and 5 assists, but the Ankeny Hawks escaped Valley HS with a neutral site win. The 5’11 senior had a big 3rd quarter scoring the ball and presented all sorts of fits for the Hawks defensively. Severson is able to change gears with the ball in his hands and stopped on a dime a handful of times to pull up for a crisp midrange jumper. A great 3 level scorer, Severson has been a great addition for Linn-Mar this past month. Him and the Lions could play spoiler come postseason time!
Micah Schlaak Micah Schlaak 6'6" | PF Kennedy | 2024 State IA , CR Kennedy 2024: Nobody came up bigger in the 4th quarter of the top ranked matchup between Kennedy and Valley than Schlaak. The junior showed his ability to stretch the floor and knocked down a midrange and big 3 late to help the Cougars remain undefeated. At 6’6, Schlaak is an intriguing prospect who went toe to toe with some exceptional Valley talent on Saturday. Schlaak will no doubt be a vital part of the #1 Kennedy State Title run.
Cash Schoolen Cash Schoolen 6'3" | SG Ankeny | 2024 State IA , Ankeny 2024: A big bench spark, Cash came up big in Saturday’s win over Linn-Mar. The 6’3 junior has taken a huge leap forward this year for the Hawks. His athleticism was on display as he used his long lanky frame to crash the glass and stride out on offensive takes across the lane to finish past his defenders. He also showcased his handles in a nice double crossover move to blow by his defender to convert a big layup in the 4th quarter of the win.
Matthew Darbouze Matthew Darbouze 6'4" | SF Linn-Mar | 2024 State IA , Linn-Mar 2024: Another player making an impact off the bench, Darbouze is a high motor player who does the dirty work and oftentimes makes the plays that don’t show up in that stat sheet. The 6’4 junior has very active hands, which led to a handful of Lion steals Saturday. On the offensive end, he used pass fakes to throw off the defense and set up teammates and crashed the glass to create second chance scoring opportunities. A very talented player who fits his role, brings energy, communicates and works hard, coaches love a player like Matthew Darbouze Matthew Darbouze 6'4" | SF Linn-Mar | 2024 State IA .
Brock Littler Brock Littler 5'8" | PG ACGC | 2023 State IA , AC/GC 2023: The highest scoring performance I have seen so far this season belongs to Littler who went unconscious against a ranked Madrid Tigers team. Fearlessly attacking the paint, hitting tough turn around midrange shots, and torhing the net from deep were all in the senior guards arsenal Tuesday night. At one point in the 3rd quarter he hit back to back to back three pointers and brought the Charger faithful in attendance to life. Altogether, the senior guard ended with 38 points on 13/25 shooting, including 7/14 from 3. He also added 11 rebounds to get a double double in the hard fought loss to Madrid.
