6A Matchups and Prospects to Watch

Here is a look at some of the interesting matchups in the 1st Round of the 6A State Tournament

Bingham vs. Skyridge

This game is a toss up. The Miners have lost at home this year but “The Pit” is such a hard place to play in with the student section right on top of you. Keep an eye on Brayden Whitehead Brayden Whitehead 6'10" | C Bingham | 2023 State UT . If he can make it hard for players to score in the paint he is going to help Bingham get a win. Making teams one dimensional is a big part of the playoffs. KJ Jenson KJ Jenson 6'0" | SG Bingham | 2023 State UT as well as Stockton Tueller will need to play well and if they can chill on the turnovers they will get a win.

On the other side of the ball Masonn Hunter Masonn Hunter 6'0" | PG Skyridge | 2023 UT and JJ Jory will need to have big games. If they can get hot from deep it will pull those defenders out more and could open up lanes. Bingham t times over rotates and you have to make open three-pointers.

Advantage: Bingham

Davis vs. Weber

Davis has had a few rough outing these past few games. They will really need a few players to step up. Coleman Atwater Coleman Atwater 6'3" | SG Davis | 2025 State UT has been playing fairly well but they will need big games from Zach Fisher Zach Fisher 6'6" | CG Davis | 2024 State UT and Colby Whicker Colby Whicker 6'2" | CG Davis | 2023 State UT . They cannot let what happen the past two games effect them.

On the other side Weber will need more than just Hunter Schenck Hunter Schenck 6'2" | PG Weber | 2024 State UT to win this one. Unless he goes off for 50+, which he is so capable of. Griffyn Doughty Griffyn Doughty 6'4" | PG Weber | 2023 State UT and their shooters will need to show up because they will get looks.

Advantage: Davis

Players to Watch

Paul Beattie Paul Beattie 6'9" | SF Farmington | 2024 State UT at Farmngton might be too much for anyone to handle on that undersized West team.

Elijah Soward will need to play out of his mind to get this win. There will be a great matchup between him and all of these Mountain Ridge players.

Ike Palmer Ike Palmer 6'4" | CG Herriman | 2024 State UT might need to put that team on his back if he wants to get out of the first round against Kearns. Kearns does have the players to speed them up to an uncomfortable pace.

Bron Roberts Bron Roberts 6'11" | SF Pleasant Grove | 2023 State UT and Isaac Garret will have a dunk fest if Clearfield doesn’t find a way to slow them down.

Westlake might be too much for Hunter as they both play a different brand of basketball. No disrespect intended.

Copper Hills should run away with this one but Colton Blackham Colton Blackham 6'0" | PG West Jordan | 2024 State UT might have other ideas. Look for Isaiah Reiser Isaiah Reiser 5'10" | PG Copper Hills | 2026 State UT to have a great game against those West Jordan guards.
