The Wolverines, who are the No. 1 seed in the district tournament, will face the No. 2 seeded Mustangs in the district championship game on Friday.
Before Friday gets here, here are the 5 best players from the semifinals round:
Jordan Frison, Memphis Overton: The senior point guard got off to a slow start, scoring just nine points in the first half of a close ball game. Frison got going in the second half, scoring 19 of his game-high 28 points, to lead his team to victory. He gave the Wolverines their first lead of the game late in the third quarter off a layup. Early in the fourth quarter, Frison’s two made free throws put Memphis Overton up for good. This senior has been dependable for the entirety of the season, and once again when the Wolverines needed their leader, he came through.
Jailen Hardaway, Memphis Overton: The 6-foot-6 senior forward had a quiet 12 points in the Wolverines win. Hardaway did a great job of scoring over smaller defenders in the paint and being active on the glass. He deserves his flowers for contributing to his team’s victory.
Xavier Alexander, Memphis Overton: The senior guard had 15 points, with nine of those points coming in the second half. Alexander didn’t shoot the ball well from 3-point range like he has done up to this point, but he made timely scores to keep the team in front. His lone 3 came late in the third quarter. It had gotten the Wolverines within two (42-40).
Jamarion Harvey, Memphis East: Harvey put on a scoring clinic, leading the Mustangs with 28 points. The senior guard knocked down shots from the perimeter and was beating Central’s guards off the dribble. Harvey was the best guard on the floor during the matchup.
Alijah Curry, Memphis East: The 6-8 forward was a mismatch problem for the Warriors Wednesday night. He was all over the glass, getting putbacks and layups with ease. Curry knocked down a sweet 15-footer, while fading away as time expired in the second quarter. He finished the night with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Honorable mention: Central’s Cameron Hudson wasn’t enough to beat the Memphis East Mustangs, but he displayed his ability to make shots from the perimeter. For a stretch in the first half, Hudson was the lone bright spot for the Warriors offense. He finished the night with 13 points.
