I was in Bloomington on Friday night for the big Bloomington North vs Bloomington South game. Then, I went North to South Vermillion on Saturday as the Wildcats took on Seeger. Let’s take a look at the top 2023 prospects from those two games last week.
Dawan Daniels
Dawan Daniels
Dawan Daniels is a quick and shifty guard who knows how to find his own shot. He loves the mid-range pull-up, and he can also knock it down from the outside. Daniels finished with 13 points in the win over Bloomington South and really willed to Cougars down the stretch in that game.
Rhett Johnson Rhett Johnson 6’6″ | PF Bloomington South | 2023 IN is a strong and physical forward in the post. He showed off some good post moves early on in the contest, and his footwork looked really solid on every post touch. Johnson also was very good at finishing through contact or drawing the foul and getting to the line where he went 5-5. He also rebounded very well on the defensive end of the floor. He finished with 9 points and 7 rebounds in the loss.
JaQualon Roberts JaQualon Roberts 6’8″ | PF Bloomington North | 2023 State IN is the #6 player in the state and #2 power forward for a reason. The Vanderbilt commit struggled from the floor in this game shooting just 2-10 and 0-5 from three, but he still found a way to impact the game in a major way. Roberts used his athleticism to dominate the glass and drive and dish to his wide-open teammates. He also won the game with two great defensive stops in the final minute of the game. Roberts finished with 5 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 blocks, and 2 steals in a game that showed all he can do when he is not scoring the ball. He is a going to be a player to watch at Vanderbilt for sure.
Highlights
Aiden Schmitz Aiden Schmitz 5’11” | SG Bloomington South | 2023 State IN is an outstanding pure shooter that has shown that in a major way this season, but he was not able to get an open look on Friday. He got hot in the fourth quarter as his 10 points helped the Panthers erase a 12-point halftime lead as they tied the game going into the fourth. Schmitz can light it up from beyond the arc, and he loves to knock down the mid-range. He is a shooter that could make an impact for any DIII team in the area.
Highlights
Owen Snedeker Owen Snedeker 6’3″ | SF Seeger | 2023 IN is a smaller post player inside, but he showed that he can handle the ball and has the footwork to step outside. He is smart in the paint and has good footwork, but he was sped up at times which led to turnovers. He needs to work on his three-point shot if he is going to make the next level, but he finished with 11 points and 7 rebounds in the win on Saturday.
Gavin Wisley Gavin Wisley 6’8″ | PF Bloomington South | 2023 State IN is one of the better DIII level players in the state and ranks as the #18 power forward in the state for the 2023 class. He sees the floor well and plays really good defense on the inside. He also can score it from all three levels. Wisley did struggle from deep in this one at just 1-5, but he was an efficient 3-4 from two with some nice post moves and good touch around the rim. Wisley finished with 12 points and 5 rebounds in the loss, and he is another guy who could make an impact at the DIII and NAIA levels.
