Week 6 Rankings Update
This was the most eventful week of the season, with 20 of the 40 ranked teams suffering at least one loss. As a result, there is a lot of movement in these newly updated rankings. We detail some of the key movement below, and new team rankings from the Iowa High School Athletic Association will be released tomorrow afternoon. our Class 2A committee will be meeting tonight.
In Class 1A, North Linn (12-0) and Grand View Christian (12-0), who met in the 1A championship game last season, continue to pace the class. Both teams have been extremely impressive again this season and have clearly separated themselves from the rest of the class so far. West Harrison (10-1) and Dunkerton (13-0) each join the top five this week following a number of losses from other teams last week. Newell-Fonda (6-1) comes the rankings for the first time this season, coming in at #10.
The top tier of Class 2A appears to be four teams now, with Central Lyon (9-0) and Aplington-Parkersburg (11-0) staying in the top two spots, followed by Western Christian (10-1) and Roland-Story (11-1), who flipped spots following the Norsemen’s loss to Grand View Christian. Alburnett (12-1) joins the rankings at #8.
Bondurant-Farrar (11-0) is the new #1 team in Class 3A, jumping a spot following a pair of losses last week by Xavier (9-2), who falls to #3. The rest of the top five is rounded out by MOC-Floyd Valley (9-1), who jumps up to #2, followed by Heelan (9-2) and North Polk (9-2). There are three newcomers in the rankings – #6 Marion (10-3), #9 Waverly-Shell Rock (8-3), and #10 Humboldt (7-2).
There is also a new #1 team in Class 4A, as Kennedy (10-0) jumps to the top spot following losses by both Waukee Northwest (12-1) and Waukee (11-2), who come in at #2 and 3, respectively. The big riser in the rankings is Valley (8-3), who jumps up to #4 this week following their blowout win over Northwest, who was the #1 team in the state at the time. Indianola (11-1) has been impressive over the last few weeks playing without star wing Drew Kingery Drew Kingery 6'4" | SF Indianola | 2023 State IA , including a narrow 3-point loss against a fully stocked Waukee team. Cedar Falls (6-3) re-enters the rankings this week at #10.
