There is a reason this is the “Hoop State”, no matter where you go you are bound to see talented players making their mark on courts all across the state. Here are 5 seniors that college coaches should take an active interest in as they have yet to signed to play college ball next year.
Derin is a young man who is getting some D1 interest but at this time has not decided where he will be plying his trade. There is a lot to like about this prospect. At 6’4, he has very good size for the lead guard position. He has very good shooting mechanics that are consistent. He plays the games a varying speeds which make him hard to guard. He loves to get in to the paint and he is a very good finisher at the rim with both hands. He is active defensively and create steals both on and off the ball. Out of the pick and roll, he is dangerous because he makes you pick your poison, if you go under and he will he the three and if you pay to much attention to him he can drop a dime to one of his teammates.
Cooper has interest across the board from several colleges although he remains unsigned. Cooper is an athletic guard who gets it done on both ends of the court. Offensively, he is a player that can dribble, pass and shot at a great level. He has fluid mechanics on the his jumper and does not need much time or space to get it off. He is athletic enough to go over the top of you and dunk it on your head or he can maneuver around you. He plays hard on defense and even at 6’1, he contest player at the rim and either blocks or alters the shot.
Barrett is another 2023 that college coaches should continue to keep an eye on. He has some interest and rightfully so, standing at 6’8 if you watch him for even a few minutes you can see his athletic ability are off the chart. If he catches the pass close to the basket, it is time for takeoff. He is more than just a dunker. You will be able to see his ability in full effect when he grabs a rebound and takes it coast to coast. He has a solid mid range game and he has good post footwork. In the era of having extremely long defenders that can switch on to almost anybody, he fits the bill.
Mr. Cash is a player that deserves more attention from colleges. He is a player that get things done on both ends of the court. Offensively he can score at all three levels. He can hit the three, hit the mid-range and make plays at the rim. While his offense is a thing of beauty one thing you will notice is this young man, get after it on the defensive side of the ball. He guards you and he makes you think twice about handling the ball when he is on you. He is active with both his hands and his feet and he does not give and inch. His 2 way ability is honestly a breath of fresh air in a time when most player only care about offense.
Highlights
Coaches that are looking for a player that is efficient on offense and will work hard on defense look no further than Brock Rose Brock Rose 6’6″ | SG Florida Coastal Prep | 2024 State NC . At 6’6, he has good size for either the SG or SF position. He has a high release on his jumper and that coupled with his size makes him hard to defend on the perimeter. He is efficient at moving without the basketball, you will consistently see him moving off of screens. When he is on the ball, he is also efficient and gets to he spots or to the rim as quickly as possible. He never seems sped up by the defense.
