Continue ReadingTonight Prep Hoops PA took in a massive Class A battle just outside of Pittsburgh as high flying Union Area took on Carlynton, high on the hill above Carnegie. The Cougars started strong but it was Union who responded and then held on for a tight 57-54 victory, giving them a drivers seat to the divisional title. Who stood out?
Matthew Stanley | G | Union
A big bodied guard who can handle the ball and battle through traffic. He showed poise running the offense and bringing the ball up against pressure. He hit some big shots but did his damage moving the ball. He also was a physical defender and battled Milliner at both ends.
Peyton Lombardo Peyton Lombardo 6'1" | SG Union | 2023 State PA | G | Union
Another physical senior guard for UA, Lombardo hit a pair of threes on offense with some pressure on him and added a third open triple. He finished the day with 11 pts and also played good defense on the perimeter, especially so when Union dropped into a zone.
Kaden Fisher| F | Union
A well built forward at a legit 6’4″-6’5″ and 190 lbs, Fisher did all the dirty work for Union, creating second chance opportunities and a large amount of points off his tips and offensive boards–He even grabbed offensive boards off of his own missed foul shots on more than one occasion. He also altered a host of shots on defense and finished with 9pts. He was physical on both ends of the floor.
Chase Jones | G | Carlynton
Jones put the ball on the floor and had a huge fourth quarter attacking the rim as the Cougars tried to claw their way back to victory. He finished with a game high 19 to lead all scorers and was confident taking bit shots as the game went on and prime time neared.
Simon Schriver | F | Carlynton
As one of Carlynton’s bigger players, Schriver had to do a lot of inside-outside work on both ends of the floor and was balanced throughout the game to add in 16 for the Cougars. He’s good with the ball in his hands and while he’s not the fastest forward on the floor, his fundamentals and footwork can make up for it and put him in spots to make shots.
Austin Milliner Austin Milliner 5'11" | PG Carlynton | 2023 State PA | G | Carlynton
Milliner is one of the top players in WPIAL class A. He’s a strong guard with good ballhandling skills who can be a contributor at the next level in the backcourt. He’s a scorer but turned into the ballhandler this evening against Union pressure. We’ve seen Milliner twice this season and have been impressed by his all around ability.
