How important was the Wolfpack’s win over the Dragons?
Very important.
Heading into Friday night’s contest, Collierville (13-8, 3-3) had already beaten Cordova (11-6, 3-2) by two in the first meeting, meaning a sweep would give the Dragons a higher chance of finishing in the top three of the 4A District 15. Tenner knew what was at stake. Luckily for the junior point guard, his teammates came along for the ride.
Tenner’s 3-point play in the third overtime gave the Wolfpack an 84-81 lead. On Collierville’s next possession, he sealed it with a steal then layup.
For Tenner’s sake, hopefully this is a positive sign for things to come with more important league games coming up.
“I was very excited, because, you know, some games have been tough for my guys,” said Tenner, who played the entire game, while going 16 for 18 from the free throw line. “In this game, they came out hot. I was just happy and excited to see my teammates make shots.”
Hall scored Cordova’s first nine points of the game and Taylor converted on five 3s in the win, with the first one turning into a four-point play, resulting in an early 15-6 lead.
Alex Vandenbergh, Collierville: The senior led the Dragons with 28 points against the Cordova Wolfpack. TJ McNeal finished with 18.
Tylon Chatman, Haywood: Chatman had 23 points, three assists, two rebounds, and two steals in a win over East Poinsett County.
