Every high school athlete dreams of one day holding up that state championship trophy. Who will get their hands on it this year? There are still a few regular season games left in the season, so there may be some changes of teams but I will mention that. I will mostly be focusing on classifications 1A and higher, as my knowledge is higher for those.
District 1 – 1A Boys Basketball
For the 1A classification, district 1 and 2 are actually combined in a sort of way. There’s a chance some of these teams can get multiple chances to make state. First, the five 1A teams in the NWC will go at it with 2 of them earning the chance to go to the District 1/2 crossover, with 2 of those teams earning state bids.
As of now, January 26th, the seedings for the District 1A tournament would go like this: 1: Lynden Christian 2: Blaine 3: Meridian 4: Nooksack Valley 5: Mount Baker.
Now with that being said, Meridian and Nooksack Valley are tied currently could flip-flop.
The matchups as of now would be of the following: 4th seed Nooksack Valley against 5th seed Mount Baker, this being the only loser-out game this round (my prediction would be Nooksack winning.) The 3rd seed Meridian would take on the 2nd seeded Blaine (Blaine would take this, in my eyes). The loser of this game will get 1 more chance to stay alive.
Now for the next round, the winner of the 4th seed/5th seed (Nooksack in my predictions) would then take on the number 1 seed (Lynden Christian currently.) The loser of this game would play a loser-out game against the loser of the 2nd and 3rd seeded game.
For my predictions, that would leave Nooksack Valley playing Meridian in the loser-out game, with the winner advancing to get one more chance against the loser of the bi-district championship game. I would predict Nooksack Valley to win this game. For the bi-district championship game, I would have Lynden Christian beating Blaine to advance onto the district 1/2 crossover. Blaine would then get one more chance to earn the 2nd bid to the district 1/2 crossover, against Nooksack Valley in my predictions, where I would have Blaine advancing.
Now let’s break down the District 2 tournament, briefly. The 2 bids from District 1 will now get the chance to fight for regional tournament play, against the 4th and the 5th seeds that come out of the District 2 tournament. The top 3 finishing teams will advance to regionals. If you ask me, the 2 teams who come out of District 1 will win in the District 1/2 crossover games.
