Archbishop Wood
Jalil Bethea Jalil Bethea 6'4" | SG Archbishop Wood | 2024 State #5 Nation PA | 6’5 G/W 2024
Going into the game, I thought Jalil needed 30 points for the Vikings to win: he scored 31. The junior shooting guard played a complete game, from start to finish. He used his improved handle to get to his pull up from deep and in the mid-range. The on-ball creation ability has also unlocked his playmaking (5 assists). Bethea set the table for his teammates without killing his dribble. Bethea mixed in slashing and off-ball movement to put together his three-level assault. He grabbed 8 rebounds as well.
Carson Howard Carson Howard 6'7" | PF Archbishop Wood | 2023 State PA | 6’8 C 2023
The East Stroudsburg-signee had one of his best games in a Vikings uniform. His 15-point, 14-rebound double-double won Wood the game too. He dominated the low block – working the glass, boxing out, and clearing out space inside. On defense, almost every driver had to come through him at the rim. He more than earned every touch he got. Howard topped off his performance with a corner three before halftime.
Deuce Maxey Deuce Maxey 6'2" | SG Archbishop Wood | 2025 State PA | 6’2 G 2025
The sixth man for the Vikings, Maxey’s contribution off the bench in the first three quarters consisted of sound help defense and attacking closeouts to extend advantages. Then the fourth quarter came and he scored all 11 of his points. Deuce hit a big three and went 4-of-4 from the line to keep the Saints at bay.
Josh Reed Josh Reed 6'3" | CG Archbishop Wood | 2024 State PA | 6’3 G 2024
Amidst NG’s big third quarter push to almost comeback from down 13 at the half, Reed kept their heads above water with 10 of his 17 points. His ability to outright take the spots he wants on drives and finish through contact above the rim was a big part of his game last night. That coupled with his physical defensive play slowed down the Saintsmen when they attacked the basket.
Gus Salem Gus Salem 6'2" | CG Archbishop Wood | 2023 State PA | 6’2 G 2023
Salem had a solid 6 points on two second-half threes, but each of his 7 assists were crucial. The Saints sped the Vikings up with their ball pressure and went on a couple runs to almost take the lead. However, Gus stabilized them by taking care of the ball and making great passes, featuring a couple skips to the weak side and a few hockey assists.
Neumann-Goretti
Sultan Adewale Sultan Adewale 6'8" | SF Neumann-Goretti | 2023 State #205 Nation PA | 6’8 F 2023
After a so-so first half, Adewale flipped the switch in the second to finish with 12 points and 11 rebounds. He mixed it up inside against Howard and fought for rebounds to generate second-chance opportunities for the Saints. He even had a couple putbacks of his own. Sultan blocked 3 shots and got a steal that he took the other way for a three-point-play.
Robert Wright III Robert Wright III 6'0" | PG Montverde Academy (FL) | 2024 State #35 Nation FL | 6’1 G 2024
Wright’s acceleration and deceleration ability were on full display. Attacking off-the-bounce, he got to his spots under control. For the most part, he got wherever he wanted and got the shots he wanted. He played through contract while getting downhill and to the free throw line (5-10 FT). Rob deserves a ton of credit for his focus on the defensive end, while running the team on offense. He had 4 steals to go along with 30 points and 6 boards.
