The atmosphere was what you want in a high school basketball game. The first quarter was back and forth ending with Millennium having a 4 point lead.
The halftime score had the Tigers extending the lead to 39-29. In the third quarter the depth of Millennium helped them open it up and when the quarter ended it was 61-38. The final score had Millennium coming out on top of Canyon View 78-51.
There were quite a few talented prospects in this game with many of them being underclassmen.
Let’s look at some of the standouts.

The versatile forward did a little bit of everything for the Tigers. He showed some of his post game to go along with a nice mid range game. Even though he needs to get stronger he still displayed toughness inside.

McNeal did all he could to keep the Jaguars close in this one. He attacked the rim when he could and looked for open teammates when the help side defense came, which was often. One of the harder guards to defend in his class due to his mid range jump shot, which might be his most deadly weapon.

The freshman wing showed more of his attack mode in this one and it wasn’t always to score. He had close to double digit assists as he repeatedly got into the teeth of the defense and kicked to open shooters. His first step is hard to stop because he’s deceptively quick with his long strides.

The senior wing didn’t show as good of outside touch as he normally does but he did hit some shots. He stayed involved as a rebounder using his good build to get good position. He showed willingness as a passer looking for cutting teammates.

Everson looked like he has settled into the position of the main ball handler for his team. He displayed good pace by taking what the defense gave him and keeping the ball moving to keep them off balance. When the opportunity was there he took advantage and knocked down some jumpers as well.

Another freshman who is growing up fast for Millennium. Barrett ran the floor hard and showed off a pretty shot from the outside. He was as comfortable pulling from a few steps from behind the three as he was posting up in the paint.

In his first game eligible after transferring in Castro took some of the ball handling pressure off of McNeal. He has a tight handle and is pretty shifty. On the defensive end he played up on his man consistently forcing him to either pass or pick up his dribble. Surprisingly he’s a very good rebounder for his size as he wasn’t afraid to get in there with the taller players and battle.
