The Jimmy V Showcase was a great example of that as unranked players showed their ability to make plays. Here are the unranked players to know from the Jimmy V Showcase.
Luke Mikolajczyk, G Rumson Fair-Haven 2023
Mikolajczyk had the highlight of the Jimmy V Showcase as he hit the game-winning layup to give the Bulldogs a 52-51 victory. The dual-sport athlete was at his best attacking the basket as he finished nicely around the basket and was able to draw contact down low. Mikolajczyk moved well within the flow of the offense and rarely took bad shots in the half court. He fought for rebounds on both ends of the floor and worked hard on the defensive end. Mikolajczyk’s clutch play at the end of the game is something that Rumson Fair-Haven can build upon for the Shore Conference and state tournaments.
Nick Rigby, G Rumson Fair-Haven 2024
Mikolajczyk may have scored the game-winning layup for the Bulldogs, but it was Rigby who passed him the ball. The dual-sport athlete played with confidence with the ball in his hands as he was able to get into the paint and finish. Rigby has a nice release on his jumper and made good decisions with the ball in his hands. He showed the ability to run the offense and moved his feet on the defensive end. Rigby’s composure down the stretch is something that will help Rumson Fair-Haven in postseason play.
Jahlil Bethea, 6’2 CG Ranney School 2023
Bethea had a strong showing for the Panthers as he was aggressive from the beginning. The 6’2 lefty went to the basket strong as he was able to consistently get to the line. Bethea shot the ball with confidence as he knocked down a triple early in the game and had a good touch on his free throws. He moved well without the ball in his hands and was able to get deflections on the defensive end. Bethea should have more performances like that for Ranney as the Panthers look to make noise in the postseason.
John Truhan, 5’10 PG Central Regional 2023
Truhan took home game MVP honors for the Golden Eagles as he ran the offense smoothly for them. The 5’10 guard knocked down three triples as he showed a good release on his jumper and set his feet before every shot. Truhan showed a nice handle as he was not rattled by on-ball pressure and set his teammates up throughout the game. He played with poise throughout the game and slid his feet on the defensive end. Truhan’s ability to run the offense efficiently is something that will be key for Central Regional in February.
Jared Bell, G Cherokee 2024
Bell had a solid game for Cherokee as he finished with 11 points in the game. The junior guard showed a good shooting stroke as he knocked down three jumpers from behind the arc. Bell moved well without the ball in his hands as he freed himself for open shots throughout the game. He played well on the defensive end and worked hard on the defensive end. Bell’s ability to stretch the floor is something that will be key for Cherokee in the upcoming county and state tournaments.
