Seeger came into the game at 7-3, but they fell to West Lafayette in their last game. South Vermillion came in at 5-7, but the Wildcats had fallen in 6 of their last 7 after a 4-1 start.
It was up and down early in the first quarter with both teams letting it fly from the outside and pushing the tempo off of rebounds. Seeger got out to an early lead from a couple of buckets from Owen Snedeker Owen Snedeker 6'3" | SF Seeger | 2023 IN . South Vermillion battled back due to the aggressiveness of point guard Luke Bush. Bush was attacking the rim on every touch and either finishing through contact or getting to the foul line. Seeger led 19-17 at the end of one.
Seeger came out of the gates strong in the second quarter with a couple of buckets from Michael Winchester Michael Winchester 6'3" | SG Benton Central | 2024 IN , and they were able to draw the second foul on Jack Moulton Jack Moulton 6'4" | PF South Vermillion | 2024 IN just one minute into the quarter. The Patriots would stretch the lead to 8, but Seeger’s leading scorer, Snedeker, picked up his third foul with three minutes to go in the half. With Snedeker off the floor, South Vermillion cut the lead to 4, but the Patriots responded with an 8-1 run to end the half to stretch the lead to 37-26. Bush led all first half scorers with 15 for South Vermillion. Winchester led the Patriots with 10 points, and Snedeker and Luke Pluimer added 9 points and 6 rebounds.
In the second half, the referees became a major part of the game with seven fouls being called in a minute and a half of action. Overall, there were 13 fouls called in the quarter. The Wildcats were able to cut the lead down to 5, but Winchester answered with a step-back triple to end the quarter. The Patriots would lead 48-40 despite having 17 turnovers in three quarters of play.
The start of the fourth quarter was sloppy with both teams turning the basketball over. South Vermillion finally got the first bucket of the quarter off of four offensive rebounds with 5:21 to go to cut the lead to 7. That bucket sparked an 8-0 run by the Wildcats to cut the lead to 1 with 3 minutes to play. The Patriots would end the run with a bucket by Winchester in the lane, but Bush would answer with an and-one on the other end to tie the game.
On the next possession, Peyton Chinn scored his first bucket of the game on their 12th offensive rebound of the game. After a miss by the Wildcats, Snedeker knocks down two free throws at the line. Bush then scores, but two Patriots players catch the inbounds pass, and they turn it over. On the final possession, South Vermillion got a great look at the rim by Elliott Corenflos, but it rolled off the side of the rim and the Patriots escaped with a win on the road.
Luke Bush led all scorers in the game with 22 for South Vermillion. He also added 5 steals and 4 assists as he was the sparkplug for the Wildcats all game long. Elliott Corenflos added 10, and Brayson Shoults added 9 points and 4 steals. Aden Wallace Aden Wallace 6'0" | SG South Vermillion | 2025 IN added 5 points on just 2-7 shooting, and Jack Moulton Jack Moulton 6'4" | PF South Vermillion | 2024 IN scored just 2 points due to foul trouble. For Seeger, Michael Winchester Michael Winchester 6'3" | SG Benton Central | 2024 IN led the way with 19 points and added 4 steals. Luke Pluimer added 11 points and 8 rebounds, and Owen Snedeker Owen Snedeker 6'3" | SF Seeger | 2023 IN finished with 11 points and 7 rebounds despite being in foul trouble all game long.
Seeger improves to 8-3 on the season with their third win over a 3A team this season. They will return to the court next Friday for a game at Southmont. South Vermillion drops to 5-8 on the season as they lose their 8th game of nine. They will look to get back on track next Friday night as they host Wabash River Conference opponent, Fountain Central.
