The Georgia field boasted Lovett, highlighted by Michigan commit Christian Anderson Christian Anderson 6'1" | PG Oak Hill Academy | 2024 State #69 Nation VA , and Creekside Christian, who had 6 guys with college interest. Both of these teams provided some serious talent, but here are my 3 guys who looked the part:
Priester was the main guy for Creekside Christian in a tough loss at the buzzer to Oldsmar Christian. I’ve seen a lot of really good 5-8 guards in my day, but Priester stood out because I could never tell that he was smaller than the other guys on the floor. The keyword with him is explosiveness. He was relentless going downhill and bodied up to the Oldsmar bigs while comfortably putting the ball in the basket. On offense, his jumpshot looked polished as he hit some massive contested 3-pointers to put Creekside back into the game late in the 4th. He was electric on the pull up mid range and could get his shot off without a hitch. Defensively, he was making life hard even for the fastest Oldsmar guards (like Willie Sheppard) and had 4 steals in the contest. He exploded to the ball on defense and forced the Oldsmar guards to make mistakes. Priester’s size holds him back a bit, but he is efficient in using the tools in his bag to overcome the size deficit and get buckets for Creekside. He has interest from schools like Morehouse and should only become more recruited as the season progresses.
Walters was a solid second option for a Lovett team that had its hands full against a gritty Williston squad. Walters’ most defining characteristic was his offensive tenacity. He did not back down from anyone throughout the entire game, even when the Williston guards in front of him were bigger or stronger. Walters was able to get his shot off on a moment’s notice and was overall a offensive-minded guy who was ready to get a bucket when needed. On a team where Christian Anderson Christian Anderson 6’1″ | PG Oak Hill Academy | 2024 State #69 Nation VA takes a lot of the shots, Walters serves as a nice option for removing some of the weight off of his shoulders.
Landyn Murphy
Landyn Murphy
Murphy stood out on the defensive side of the ball for Lovett. In a game where it felt like Williston was in complete offensive control, Murphy provided a much needed defensive jolt for Lovett. His quickness and small guard awareness made him a disruptive presence in the passing lanes and when guarding the ball. Lovett at times appeared to be slightly flat, so Murphy was a great piece that attempted to spark some life on the defensive end.
