Continue ReadingEwing and Hamilton was a key matchup as both teams are preparing for the upcoming Mercer County Tournament. The Hornets were able to pull off the 53-49 victory, knocking off the Blue Devils from the ranks of the unbeaten. Here are the Ewing-Hamilton West stock-risers.
Devyn Wright-Myles Devyn Wright-Myles 6'3" | SF Hamilton West | 2024 State NJ , 6’3 W Hamilton West 2024
Wright-Myles only scored four points on the night, but his impact was felt throughout the game. The 6’3 wing was all over the floor on defense as he recorded nine steals and swatted a couple shots, including a high-rising block late in the fourth quarter. Wright-Myles attacked the glass on both ends of the floor and was unafraid of contact in the paint. He ripped down rebounds on both ends of the floor and showed the ability to get to the rim on the perimeter. Wright-Myles is an athletic wing prospect whose ability to make plays on the defensive end is something that will help his stock in a big way.
Kenny Rankin Kenny Rankin 6'1" | SG Ewing | 2023 State NJ , 6’1 SG Ewing 2023
Rankin had a strong game for the Blue Devils as he showed the ability to score the ball in a variety of ways. The 6’1 guard attacked the basket with a purpose and used his strong frame to draw contact around the basket. Rankin showed off a good release on his jumper and made the Hornets pay for giving him space behind the arc. He dove on the floor for loose balls and got deflections on the defensive end. Rankin is a tough guard prospect who should continue to put up strong games for Ewing, like his 17-point performance against Hamilton West.
Hass Cannon Hass Cannon 6'4" | SG Hamilton West | 2024 State NJ (Hass,) 6’4 SG Hamilton West 2024
Cannon tied Rankin with a game-high 17 points as he made plays for the Hornets throughout the game. The 6’4 guard was able to beat his defender off the bounce and routinely drew contact. Cannon made a couple of nice passes on the night and has a nice release on his jumper. He showed the ability to run the offense at times and blocked a couple of shots around the basket. Cannon is only getting better with the ball in his hands and will be one to watch in the Mercer County Tournament for Hamilton West.
Naire Preston, 5’9 PG Ewing 2023
Preston had a strong second half for the Blue Devils as he was key in their second half run. The 5’9 guard has a good first step, which he used to get to the rim and finish around the basket. Preston showed no fear of drawing contact and shot the ball with confidence from distance. He played tough on-ball defense and made good decisions with the ball in his hands. Preston’s combination of grit, speed and talent is something that has been key to Ewing’s success this season and should continue in the postseason tournaments.
Arrington Rhym Arrington Rhym 6'2" | PG Hamilton West | 2023 State NJ , 6’0 PG Hamilton West 2023
Rhym started off the game on the bench for the Hornets, but was a big spark for them with 10 points. The 6’0 guard moved well without the ball in his hands as he was able to create layups for himself in the half court. Rhym used his handle effectively as he helped the Hornets with Ewing’s press and was not rattled by their pressure. He fought for rebounds on both ends of the floor and was able to cause turnovers on the defensive end. Rhym played in only his third game of the season due to the transfer rule and should have more double digit scoring games as he gets more comfortable within Hamilton West’s offense.
